My almost 10year old basset hound named Trixie just got diagnosed with bladder cancer on 1-19-07. I've been reading about the cottage cheese/flaxseed combination and I'm very interested. Can someone give me an idea of how much of each to give her. She's about 50lbs. I'm also going to be using proxicam and anything else I can use to make her live longer. She's my middle child and I love all my dogs very much. If someone could e-mail me at --- Message edited by CancerCompass staff: for personal protection, email address removed. Hi - I am sorry you had to "join the club" of those of us obsessed with trying to help our poor little friends. I have a Bichon Frise who weighs about 16 lbs. I give her 3 heaping tablespoons of lowfat organic cottage cheese mixed with1 tablespoon of Flaxsse oil (highest Lingon). I cannot tell you the improvement I have seen in Sugar since I started giving her this odd but valuable concoction.
My dog did not tolerate Piroxicam very well - instead she takes Previcox which she seems to be accepting without problem. We also give her Denamarin (which is the improved version of Deramax). Once in a while she will start acting oddly or urinating frequently. That's when we put her on an antibiotic. This really helps turn her around.
She seems very happy and acts like a puppy - at least for now. I really cherish every moment I have with my very loving Sugar.
I hope your dog is doing well.
