Chemo-Therapy ??

Greetings,I just had colon cancer surgery (Anterior Resection) 6 weeks ago. Thank G-d the surgery was succesful and all the cancer was removed.Initially the Dr said it was a T1 but after they examined the section they removed they determined it was T3. Patology also indicated N0/3 M0.The Dr is now recomanding Chemo-Therapy to prevent future speading of cancer cells. I am very afraid of Chemo-Therapy due to short term and long term side effects. My question:Did anyone have a similar surgery and decided no to have the Chemo-Therapy. I am 63 years old and would like to know if there are alternative treatment to Chemo-Therapy.Any HELP will be appreciated.Sincerely - Addy

Should I give up now?

My Dad was diagnosed with esophageal cancer with mets to the liver (several tumors on the liver) in October. When he was first diagnosed, we thought that conventional western medicine was the way to go, and that people who chose the "natural" route were crazy. That is what our society has got us believing. Now I feel the opposite, but that is neither here nor there at this point. So Dad had 5 months of chemotherepy. This did not work. He was so sick when he was on chemo but the 2 weeks in between treatments he was ok. But after 5 months, we realized the chemo was not working. They offered him another type of chemo with a 10% chance it might help, but Dad declined. We started going to naturalpath. Since a month ago, Dad has been taking hemp oil (phoenix tears hemp oil), apricot seeds, vitamin C infusions, and other supplements. He has gone from being able to go for short walks to not being able to get out of bed except to go to the bathroom in the last 2 weeks. He's loosing weight, struggles to talk, has fevers around the clock unless he is on tylenol, which he is a lot. His abdomon and ankles are swoolen, anemic needing blood transfusions once a week, and worst of all, he's always nausious, and throwing up many times a day. He Cannot eat much because of this. We dont know where the nausia is coming from but his liver is very bad at this point.I always had hope through all of this. Even last week when his medical doctor told him he had a few months to live (he did not know that Dad was doing any alternative treatments) But we have tried what seems like everything now and nothing is making this any better, he's just getting worse and worse. Is it time for me to give up hope and accept that he is going to die? I cannot see how he can come back from being this ill. I can't see how the treatments he is on could work now that it's been over a month and there is NO sign of him getting any better. At what point do you give up hope and just accept?

Need some Avemar help

I may need to give a little background before I ask this question. My husband was diagnosed with colorectal cancer in August of 05. He underwent a total colectomy with a j-pouch reconstruction. He was recently diagnosed with liver mets in Dec of 07. He had a lobectomy in March of this year. He just started his chemo treatments and has only recieved one. He will be getting them every other friday. My question is this. I was going to purchase him some Avemar to boost his immune system while getting the treatments. However, one of the warnings is not to take it if you have absorbancy issues in your digestion. With him not having a colon and only having a simulated colon made from his small intestines, would he be able to take this supplement? Has anyone here had the same operations and taken this supplement?

hoxsey clinic

i have fibromyalgia and would be very interested in hearing from anyone who has been to the hoxsey clinic for treatment of this disease. i went in 2000 and was impressed with how thorough the clinic was and with the success stories that i heard while there. i only met one girl who had lupus and the rest of the people had cancer. at that time, they said that they would probably eventually start me on the tonic but wanted me to try a different approach first. this involved a diet, giving myself b-12 shots and taking numerous supplements, including DMSO. my husband couldn't stand the smell of the DMSO and i didn't see any improvement so i didn't go back or continue the treatment. if i return, i won't buy any of the supplements unless i can also get the tonic. that seems to be the real key in people getting better (along with the diet required when you are on the tonic). i would also like to know what blood tests i could do ahead of time to avoid that additional cost. thanks for any info you can give. bj

Why anti-cancer drugs may work better in lab rats than people

I'm referring specifically to DCA here -- the tests with lab rats seem to produce far better results than with people.Possible reason? Lab rats are fed a highly nutritious diet, and don't eat junk food. And of course they don't smoke, drink, or take recreational drugs. In addition, lab rats produce their own vitamin C in their bodies, as do all mammals except for apes, man, and guinea pigs. It is estimated by some authors that if human beings made their own vitamin C as most animals do, our bodies would produce 13,000 milligrams of vitamin C a day!

Melanoma and Alternative Treatments

I apologize for the length of this message, this is my first time posting on this site. I am amazed the courage that I see here, my heart goes out to all that are battling this disease. I am just scared to death and looking for any advice on how to beat this horrible disease and help my family. My 74 year old father was just diagnosed with melanoma…Clark’s stage IV, the thickness was 4.6mm. We do not yet know the clinical stage, but had a CT scan of head, neck, chest, abdomen and pelvis yesterday so we should know shortly. He may have a PET scan, but he has not made up his mind on that yet, as he has come across good and bad info on PET scans. We are headed to a cancer center next week to discuss options, although he does not want any chemo or radiation. He prefers to take an alternative approach to his cancer and we completely support his decision. At 75, he takes no medication, has no chronic diseases, and keeps active, he is by no means a couch potato! We lead a healthy lifestyle and have for many years, taking vitamins, eating well, we grow much of our own food, we are vegetarians, we don’t consume sugar or empty carbohydrates. As soon as he felt that there might be a problem, he upped his vitamin intake, particularly VitC, and amino acids and his following an anti-cancer diet and supplement program based off the research of Dr. Rath and others. He does not have any physical symptoms and says he feels great….he is just mad that he has this disease now. I am just wondering if there are any melanoma survivors out there that have taken an alternative approach to their cancer and had long term success. Any and all advice is appreciated. Thank You!

Nausia from excess supplements?

Hello, I was wondering if anyone could give me thier opinion. My Dad has esophegeal cancer with mets to the liver. He was on chemotherepy until a month ago, when he opted to go the natural route. He's seen 3 naturalpaths, and had energy work done. He is on sooooo many supplements, vitamins, and herbs. He has become very nausious in the past few months, it gets worse and worse. The medical doctors seem to think it's because of the liver. I am wondering if it could be due to the fact that he's on so many supplements. I was thinking of taking him off some of the supplements. Has anyone had this experience?

I-P 6 and other supplements

My husband just finished radiation and chemo therapy (3 days ago) at the Mayo clinic. Surgery is scheduled to occur in a month for esophageal cancer. My question is - when is it safe to take I-P 6 and other supplements that may provide additional nutritional support. I understand that the chemo and radiation effects "peak" in two weeks and I do not want to interfere with that. Would taking supplements now - negatively affect the chemo and radiation work?

Was asked to submit my protocol by board member

Here's what I do, but remember, your particular situation my need other treatment alts to work well:I drink lemon water (organic) each day, several times a day (to help alkalize my system). Juice one lemon and add two quarts pure water.A good super green formula like Barleans or Perfect Food by Garden of Eden. This will also help to alkalize, among other things. A immune system modulator like RM-10 by Garden of Eden, or the far superior (and costly) Beta Glucan from http://aboutbetaglucan.com/best-beta-glucan.asp READ everything there! Don't be tempted to buy cheaper brands, because it is NOT the same!A good food-based multivitamin without iron. Men's/Women's ONE by Rainbow Light is a good one at about $13-15 dollars for 50-day supply. And last, but not in the least less important, coconut oil-- yes, coconut oil! Organic, UNrefined, virgin oil. You'll need to work up to 4 TABLEspoons per day. Start with one TEAspoon in warm or hot foods (I take it straight) once a day for a few days, and gradually work up to 4 TABLEspoons over the course of a month or so. This stuff is God's gift! That's it. I'm as healthy as a teen and feel like it too (I'm 57). Eddie

I'm completely cured.

Some of you may remember my postings on the natural means by which I survived my colon cancer bout. I laid out my protocol and mentioned one of the means by which I strengthened my immune system (one of several things I did). Well, there is now a much stronger immune-system booster that I have researched. You'll have to p.m. in order for me to tell you about it, as product endorsements are not allowed here. I do not sell, nor am I connected in any way with any product I recommend. I did not allow the traditional means, as that would have killed me, since I was already close to death (remember, I thought I had a gallbladder problem--a miss diagnosis!!). Please research alternative means! Eddie

Cancer Retruned to Bones/Alternative Options

Was on hormone therapy (7 months) and 44 IMRT radiation treatments for advanced prostate cancer two years ago, thereafter in remssion until recently when my PSA popped up to 15, given antibiotics for presumed infection, then finally suggested I have a bone and cat scan revealing apparent bone cancer in two places in my back pending biopsy from still another Oncologist at IUPUI Cancer Pavilion in Indianapolis. Also, my foremer Oncologist suggested I would have to be on hormone therapy the rest of my life.Started on shitake mushroom extract, dried goji berries, blegreen algae, folic acid.... been taking pomegranate extract, Vitamion d3, selinium, omega 3 fish oil capsules.. no meat diet, lots of fruits, green vegies, walnuts. Comments, suggestions, help? Thanks John

Now this is driving me nuts

I downloaded Bill Henderson's book on curing cancer naturally, and boom... I get more conflicting information. On one page, he quotes a guy who says that most cancers start with some severe emotional upheaval, and the guy even claims to be able, to some degree, to say which types of cancers are caused by which types of emotional stressors. Then a few pages later, he's quoting some guy that says that most cancer is caused by root canals. So which is it? Emotional stressors or root canals? Or is it neither? I guess you are in real trouble if you had a root canal and it caused severe emotional distress. Double whammy.

Antioxidants or no antioxidants???

I was diagnosed with stage 3C colon cancer -- had a large tumor removed from the sigmoid area, then underwent 6 months of chemotherapy -- 5FU and oxaliplatin. 6 weeks since the end of chemo, but my fingers are still very numb.Well, at any rate, my most recent CAT scan shows "suspiciously enlarged lymph nodes in my upper abdomen". The oncologist hemmed and hawed about what this meant, but I know what it means. Cancer is still there. And these are cells immune to chemotherapy, basically. And that gives me about a 30% chance of living for 5 years according to the statistics. So time to look at alternatives. I've been reading a lot about alternative therapies. They all have one thing in common -- the "cancer diet" -- lots of juicing, raw foods, no meat, no sugar, etc. Okay -- got that down. But where there is a wide divergence is in the use of antioxidants. Lots of success stories about IV C. Some success stories involving CoQ10. Linus Pauling's Canadian associate even claimed niacin played a big role in stopping cancer, but I haven't seen any follow-up on this. But then we get the Budwig Diet, which claims large doses of antioxidants are BAD BAD BAD. The Budwig crowd (which seems to have a very impressive track record) claims that the antioxidants severely interfere with the omega 3's re-establishing the electrical balance of the cells. Their basic idea is to turn back on the aerobic respiration of cancer cells and they will become normal again. What's her name -- Donna Summers (?) of Three's Company fame claims she cured herself of stage 4 breast cancer with a mostly raw food diet. She too believes that antioxidants are ... if not bad, then not needed.Dr. Day of San Francisco also claims to have cured herself of stage 4 breast cancer with, again, an all natural, mostly raw food diet (and a lot of barley grass powder) and she too says antioxidants are bad, because "you can't improve on God". Then there's the "cancertutor" website that has such a mishmash of information that one gets lost. Some methods say don't use any antioxidants. Others are based mainly on antioxidants. Some say NO SUGAR, even fruit sugar -- stay away from fruit! Others say fruit (and even honey) is a-okay. I've just started taking IV C. I also wanted to do the Budwig diet in conjunction, but I posted this to the Budwig board and they jumped all over me, claiming that the IV C would render the Budwig diet completely ineffective. They went as far as to say that the antioxidants would turn the omega 3's into "bad oils" and damage my body. Yet there is one guy on the internet who claims that Budwig kills so many cancer cells so quickly that you must have a strong supply of antioxidants to clean up afterwards. This is actually contrary to what Budwig claims -- they claim to "convert" cancer cells. But I have seen posts by "Budwigists" who claim that there can be large die-offs of cancer cells.Well, I'm completely confused. Any advice?
