Cervical cancer now tiny spots on lungs

My niece, age 32, was diagnosed with cervical cancer and had a hysterectomy. They found that cells had moved beyond the uterine wall, I think, and they did a cat scan to see if there were cells in any organ. They found that there were lots of tiny spots in her lungs. Initially, they said it didn't look like lung cancer, but since she had cervical cancer they thought it was lung cancer. They also said they knew it wasn't the same cell type as her cervical cancer. They recommended radiation of the cervical / vaginal area, which she completed. Then they did a follow-up cat and said that the tiny spots looked nearly the same, but now they say typical lung cancer - she has 1 to 2 years. In order to do any further treatment they said they needed to know what cancer cells she has, so they did a lung biopsy last Tues. On Friday, they said wven with 20 specimens they didn't get one of the spotted tissue(s). So, they know nothing more. She has a 3 year old and a 1 year old and, needless to say, she's beside herself. She wants to do something. One other thing, she spent at least 5 years working in a "clean room" using chemicals. They wore "bunny suits" but later found out the suits were to protect the computer chips from the human contaminents, not to protect the humans from chemical contaninents. So, she wonders if the tiny spots might be damage from chem. Do any of you have any idea what she can do?

I Need Info...Please

My 64 year old dad who suffers from asthma, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, congestive heart failure, and stage iii b advanced hodgkin's lymphoma has made a decision to discontinue treatment (chemo). He has also opted not to have radiation due to the many masses throughout his chest and abdomen. He was first diagnosed in oct. 2006 and was in remission for about 7 months when it relapsed this past january 2008. He has had a rough time whenever he has had chemo. He has been in and out of the hospital with infection after infection ad bottles/i.v.'s of antibiotics. Due to his heart problems he is not a candidate for bone marrow transplant ot traditional chemo. What now? What happens next? Does anyone know what course the lymphoma will take? I know it is terminal when left untreated but i need to know what my dad might go through. I am so scared for him. Thanks!

Connection between oddities?

I'm new to this site, so please bear with me. In 2000, at the age of 29, I was diagnosed with glandular cell dysplasia of the cervix. After multiple biopsies, LEEP, etc., the recommendation of the local tumor board was hysterectomy, as it was essentially at a stage "0". I had a LAVH that fall, with the ovaries left intact. Three months later, I also had a laser ablation of the vagina, as there were still some pesky cells hanging out. All has been well since then. Then, in 2002, doctors found a golf-ball sized mass in the left lobe of my thyroid, 2 smaller in the left and gross lymphadenopathy in my upper chest and neck. Do not pass go, do not collect $200, straight to total thyroidectomy. Pathology showed no cancer, but an immunological response, chronic lymphycytic thyroiditis.Fast forward to 2008, have been having problems with tachycardia and flushing among other problems. Hospitalized for heart rate hovering around 140 on meds. During the work up, found a "small" 1.5cm right adrenal mass. Labs show no increase in cortisol levels, but do show a high aldosterone:renin ratio (.63). On CT, there is a 1.5 cm right pelvic mass, maybe ovarian as well as smaller left ovarian cysts and a thickening of the hepatic flexure of the colon. Now, doing saline suppression test, 24hr urine serotonin, repeat dexamethasone suppression test.I have multiple issues. First, for years I've had trouble with the flushing and increased heart rate. Any semi-stressful situation causes my heart rate to jump and I get red, splotchy areas all over my torso, up my neck and onto my face. It will go away within 5-10 minutes usually. I also have been diagnosed with IBS, have trouble with both constipation and diarrhea. I have some episodes of the heart-rate and flushing subsequent to eating. My skin also will blanche then turn red if "scratched", I have epigastric pain (beneath the sternum/right ribs) constantly, even feels sore there. I do have bilateral lower extremity edema most of the time. I know that some of these most recent symptoms and results point to a neuro-endocrine syndrome, pheochromocytoma or maybe just a an incidentaloma. We're working on it...But, I am curious whether all of these things may be related? Is it possible that the glandular cell dysplasia for which I had the hysterectomy may be related to the thyroid issue as well as the rest of this?Any input would be greatly appreciated. I am not a hypochondriac, but you know how the saying goes, "If you hear hoofbeats, you should think horses and not zebras"? Well, it seems that often I'm a zebra girl all the way...

myth or fact??

is it true, that if a person has cancer, lets say in my mothers case, lung cancer. that if she was to have surgery, be opened up, does the cancer spread quickly, or at all...??? All my life, I thought that if cancer was exposed, it spread. Is this medical myth or fact...? My mom was diagnosed with lung cancer and they said surgery would be best. That is was samll and contained in just one small area. I think it was the "wedge" sugery,. Small remover of the cancerous tunor on the lung, possilbe no further treatment needed. During surgery, Dr. saw that it was ALL over her chest cavity. They say she fell in the low 10% that was undetected by the CAT and PET scans. The biopsy at surgery was NSCLC. We went immedialey, for radiation to shrink the large tumor, to relive pain, then chemo, but they released her at the end of radiation with hospice given her "weeks" to live. her surgery was Jan. 7, 2007 (6- 1/2 weeks ago!!), She walked in a healthy 67 year old woman, and got wheeled out with all this mess, and now is very weak, on oxygen all the time, struggles with eating, controlling her bowels, and given a death sentence. How does this happen...?

just diagnosed with EC

greetingsI,m Jonathan and about to start the journey of esophagel cancer.I was diagnosed last week and certainly my dance step has faltered somewhat since then. The only answwr I know to "Why Me" is"Why Not Me."which still brings a wry smile.Got result of CATSCAN yesterday and it was good news relatively speaking as the cancer has not spread anywhere else thus far and is confined to the tumour.I am booked to see the surgeon next thurs. followed by the resection surgery probably a week later..Reading about this Op.is fairly alarming to say the least. My primary question Is there any point in exploring non invasive protocols, given the stage 1 status.because at present nobody in the medical profession has even mentioned an alternative. Is this because radical surgery is so much superior to any other treatments.Has anyone heard about DCA treatments for cancer. I,m a fairly fit 70 year old who loves cycling and does couple 2 hour work outs in the gym weekly.I certainly celebrate life and laughter but wonder just how much of this I will lose after surgery.I am fully aware of my great fortune in not having to worry about medical bills here in Canada and as stated earlier, after reading the Grim and the Good in this forum I,m truly delighted that somewhere like this exsists to share my feelings/emotions and I thankyou all for being here.I,m not frightened for my future or the surgery but certainly take a few big gulps when I read about the journey afterwards.Whatever, here,s a smile for all of us and I have to remember that life truly isOne day at a Time.salute jonathan

just a little worried!

HiI have recently turned 30, not that my age really matters. I have had a few issues down below since i was 18. Cysts that cause alot of pain. I have had a positive pap test last year and going back in feb for a another pap test too see the development or not. I have regular lumps come and go under my arm pit in my groin. Years ago i had my breasts checked as i had found a lump but was given the all clear. Iv had a bartholins cyst which was needed to be removed. For a couple of years i have had chronic lower back pain and pain in the abdomin and in my thighs. Went for a TV scan and discovered a cyst by chance, all else seems normal cervix ect. I then went a couple months later to get rechecked and was given an internal by the gyn and was told i was ok? BUT then gave me a blood form and told to get it done asap and taken from the point of blood test on to the diagnosis of bowel problems1??! I cam eout of the office and read the blood test form and it was for CA-125. I am awaiting the results, have to go back to the hospital in Feb for a repeat scan and would then be told my CA-125 results. Am i worrying for nothing and if there was somr=eting to woory about would they contact me sooner. I had the CA-125 test done in Jan 08. Could anyone advise me on anything because my gyne gets very frustrated with me asking alot of question but i just want to know that i dnt have OC. I eat alot im a size 8,when i say i eatr alot i eat ALOT. I smoked 10 fags a day and drink 1-2 bottles of wine a week.

hi everybody,I was wondering what diseases mimic leukemia. I have most of the symptoms, and Im really sick but all the blood tests came back normal. I was tested for hyper and hypo thyroid, mono, anemia, and leukemia and every single test came back negative. Im REALLY sick with some disease but we can't figure out what's wrong.
