Low Fiber Diet For Colon Cancer Recovery

Hi! I have a friend who just had colon cancer surgery a couple of weeks ago. We, his circle of friends, are helping his wife by bringing them dinner each night. We were told that his diet must be low fiber, low spice, and very soft. He currently is not eating a lot. He still has lots of nausea. I researched on the internet for low fiber foods, since I feel virtually ignorant on that subject. From what I read, I thought he might be able to eat mashed potatoes and carrot souffle, but is it reasonable to think that he could eat meat yet? I saw a low fiber recipe for Shepherd's Pie. I can cook a roast in the crockpot and drain the fat off it, it would be very soft, but I am concerned that it is too soon for this type of food. Can anyone advise me as to what you found easiest to eat after your surgery? Thanks.

non-alkalyzed (not-dutch treated) chocolate and cancer

I've been here quite a bit about the benefits of eating non-sweetened dark chocolate (non-alkalyzed) and a treatment for tumors. The chocolate (prefrebly cocoa) should be pure, have little no or sugar, not be consumed with milk. The flavanoid content is extremely high -- extremly! Hershey's is coming out with a brand of such products and SunSweet has just introduced PlumsSweets -- small, dark-cholocate pieces of plum that are extrarordinary high in flavinoids. Can anyone guide to research that back up these claims? I've lost a lot of weight so gaining a little back through this techinque might be good (or at least taste good). But I'd like to know how real the science in. Any advice or guidance to web sites would be welcome. Thanks.

Processed meats cause cancer

World cancer experts have finally declared what NewsTarget readers learned nearly four years ago: That processed meats cause cancer, and anyone seeking to avoid cancer should avoid eating all processed meats for life.Hundreds of cancer researchers took part in a five-year project spanning more than 7,000 clinical studies and designed to document the links between diet and cancer. Their conclusion, published in the World Cancer Research Fund's report, Food, Nutrition, Physical Activity and the Prevention of Cancer: a Global Perspective (2007), has rocked the health world with a declaration that all people should immediately stop buying and eating processed meat products and that all processed meat should be avoided for life!Processed meats, the report explains, are simply too dangerous for human consumption. And why? Because they contain chemical additives that are known to greatly increase the risk of various cancers, including colorectal cancer, breast cancer, prostate cancer, leukemia, brain tumors, pancreatic cancer and many more. The report, published at this DietAndCancerReport.org website also recommends that consumers:. Avoid all sugary soft drinks for life.. Exercise at least 30 minutes a day.. Get lean and fit, without becoming underweight.. Limit consumption of ALL meats (even fresh meat).. Breastfeed all infants for their first six months, avoiding infant formula.

Not Eating

My dad, 81 years old, was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma in July. He had 3 chemo sessions. He ended up with an infection and has been in the hospital for almost 4 weeks now. The doctors say his tumor has really shrunk. He should be able to come home but he is not eating. He has become very weak. I have asked him if he is just wanting to give up and he says, "NO!" very forcefully. He does not want to die. He doesn't know why he can't eat. The doctors say he can have whatever he wants to restore his strength. I bring him many different things but after just 2 bites, which he chews forever, he won't eat any more. He knows how important it is but he can't seem to do anything about it. Has anyone had this happen? The doctors have said there is nothing they can do now, they will just let him die. I understand this as they can't treat him if he doesn't eat. Can anyone help me.....quickly?

Reliv vs. Life Force

Just my two cents... I tried Reliv a couple of years ago because of the many benefits that were touted by others. I went to their weekly meeting and heard from a lot of people with various ailments. Although by nature I'm a bit of a skeptic their stories and what it did for them made perfect sense to me. We don't get all our vitamins and minerals from our food so naturally we don't feel as good as we should. Food today is processed, too much sugar and not enough nutrition. Look at most people over the age of 30, they are pale, overweight, have high blood pressure, sickly looking and are not very energetic. Go into any office or store you see them everywhere, barely making it from day to day. Also, everyone seems to be on some kind of medication. Except no one every gets better. Everyone is headed downhill. The only thing I didn't like about Reliv was some of the people, the distributors. They looked very money hungry. Willing to say anything so they could get you to part with your money. Most of them looked like liars. But the one lady (housewife) who did convince me seemed very legitimate and I believed her. She had fibromyalgia (sp?) Some people are just more sincere and believable than others. So after that I took the plunge and became a distributor. Unfortunately I couldn't convince anyone of the benefits so I ended up using practically all of it myself. Except for one friend of mine. Honestly, I was disappointed. I liked the stuff a lot but nobody else did. I even gave one can of free stuff to my mother. She didn't notice any difference. She was very skeptical. So here I was out of over $600 and extremely disappointed and mad that I was suckered in on it. The only good thing that came out of it for me was that the stuff works wonders! I would wake up refreshed, not groggy, my knee no longer hurt, I had a general sense of well-being ! No lie. I took it religiously everyday. I loved it.Fast forward to the present. I haven't been feeling so well lately and thought this would be a great time to try Reliv again. I didn't want to become a distributor, but I wanted to try the stuff one more time. For myself this time, no one else. I went on Ebay, but found it's still kind of expensive. About $30 a can. I even called the old distributor, no luck. No discount. So then I Googled an alternative to Reliv and found out about Life Force. What made me try it was I only had to pay the $7 S&H fee the first time and it was suppose to be as good as Reliv. Great! So I ordered it a couple of weeks ago. At first I was a little disappointed because when I read the ingredients all I saw was a high amt. of potassium and some aloe vera, not like Reliv Now which has everything in it, like Vitamin A, B, C, D, plus iron, potassium, etc. and in huge amounts. So for two weeks I've been taking this liquid juice that tastes like unsweetened cherry cola. All I can say is it's nothing like Reliv. It did cure my restless leg syndrome but that's about it. Reliv seemed much so much more powerful. It seemed to cure everything, restless leg syndrome, cravings, energy lulls in the middle of the day, my injured knee, waking up groggy, etc. and it gave me a lot more energy. Even my skeptical mother said she bowled better when she was taking Reliv. She wanted to try it again.Honestly, I think you really don't realize the benefits of Reliv until after you're off of it. When you're on it you just kind of take for granted you feel better. But once you stop taking it you're back to feel bad again.Lastly, yes it's expensive, yes the distributor's are money hungry, but the stuff works GREAT!! If any of you out there don't want yours let me know and I'll buy it off of you. For what's it's worth, I think Reliv is the better product.

Edema left foot

I have not been diagnosed with cancer, but was rather hoping someone might be able to give me a few ideas about the sudden appearance of edema in my left foot and calf.I do have osteoarthritis (mild), which I manage by daily exercise (at least 1 hour), biking, walking, and weight lifting. I have been exercising like this for three years and I have never had a problem. I eat organic foods, and do not eat any white flour or white sugar, eat a lot of raw spinach. The edema showed up suddenly after two weeks of not exercising due to illness. There is no numbness in the leg, just the foot, and the foot is swollen so that I cannot see the veins in my foot. I can get it into a shoe, but it's not real comfortable. There is no discoloration of the foot. If I take a OTC diuretic, it helps, and it goes down if I move around, but comes back as soon as I sit for a while in my office chair. I've been elevating the foot, increased my water intake, went down to one cup of coffee a day, and eliminated diet sodas. I've tried to assess my diet to see if there is a particular food giving me a problem, but have had no luck isolating the culprit. If anyone can give me general ideas as to what this edema might mean, I would appreciate it. I am not looking for a diagnosis, just want to know if this is potentially serious and if I should get my tail to a doctor. Thanks
