Super Greens

I have been reading a lot about super greens, but am not sure what product would be the best to buy and have gotten terribly confused. If there is anyone using them at this time and would like to comment it would be greatly appreciated. I did read great reviews about one of them BUT its something like $75 for a 14 day supply, which would be only one week if Jim and I both used it.Thanks,Esther

Glucose and insulin- Big negatives?

Cancer Compass (great resource) just had an article about the negative effects of excess glucose and insulin on getting a relapse of cancer polyps in the intestine. Excess of glucose and insulin ( as in prediabetes) had a significant increase in relapse of the polyps and caner. But what does this mean? Doe it mean I should eat less sugar? I had stage two rectal cancer and Im a year past chemo. I guess it means I should do a regimen of exercise to avoid diabetes - exercise, low carb diet. I will really miss my sweet foods even though I really don't eat much of it. Say it isn't so: I must give up chocolate. :)

Immunocal

Hello, I read that Immunocal http://www.immunolead.com/products/immunocal.html by increasing the level of glutathione in healthy cells and decreasing it in cancer cells helps fight the tumor. Beside the studies below:http://www.immunolead.com/clincalevidence/publishedstudies.h are there any other studies to support that? Is the following publication valid? Melnick, SJ, Rogers, P, Sacks, N, Kwyer, TA, Halton, J, Sandler, E, Escalon, E, Ladas, EJ. A Pilot Limited Institutional Study to Evaluate the Safety and Tolerability of Immunocal®, a Nutraceutical Cysteine Delivery Agent in the Management of Wasting in High-Risk Childhood Cancer Patients. Chicago Supportive Oncology Conference, August 2005. This pilot study, conducted through the Nutrition subcommittee of the Children's Oncology Group (COG), evaluated the safety and tolerability of Immunocal®, an undenatured whey-protein derivative which provides glutathione precursors. Depletion of reduced glutathione (GSH) in various organs including the immune system is a common finding in cachexia, reduced immune function, and poor wound healing, which are among the serious consequences cancer patients endure due to their disease and/or therapy. The study was a 90-day, two-dose evaluation of Immunocal® (0.5 g/kg/d vs. 1.0 g/kg/d) added to the standard institutional nutritional regimen. Twelve patients with high-risk tumors were enrolled from three institutions. Clinical and biochemical data were assessed at baseline and days 45 and 90. Immunocal® was successfully administered by one or more of three routes: oral, gastric tube, and nasogastric tube and was generally well tolerated. Compliance ranged from 50%-100% (7 patients with > 80%). All but 4 patients gained weight ranging from 7.1%-26.9% from the prestudy weight. Though not statistically significant, GSH levels were increased and oxidized glutathione (GSSG) levels decreased in all but 1 patient. Other observations include the amelioration of severe mucositis in 2 patients and abatement of nausea and vomiting in 2 patients. The findings indicate Immunocal® can be given safely and was well tolerated in the majority of pediatric cancer patients. The results are being used to establish end-points for a double-blind placebo controlled trial to be submitted to the COG scientific committee to evaluate of the efficacy of Immunocal® in high-risk cancer patients. Thank you very much

Fucoidan-a natural choice

Hello everyone, I had cancer of the bowel and 8 major operations over 15 years and suffered from complications with adhesions (scar tissue) and diabetes. Having tried many alternative natural products over 20 years, I had nearly resigned myself to my poor quality of life. At the beginning of the year I was introduced to FUCOIDAN, which is a natural extract of brown seaweed, known for it's benefits to the human body for hundreds of years. The effect was immediate and changed my whole way of life. The abdominal pains receded, the digestion of food improved and my blood sugars started to reduce!! Having been so delighted and relieved, I would like to share my experience with as many people as possible. FUCOIDAN has the reputation of causing cancer cells to self destruct and to strengthen and produce healthy white blood cells. In addition, it can also, boost, regulate and maintain the immune system. Extremely positive results have been experienced for any condition, such as M.E. where the immune system is under performing (many common ailments are just as a result of this.) It has other properties as well, but the most important thing is how the Fucoidan is absorbed into the body. The product I have been using, includes the Fucoidan in a unique, matrix based, natural fibre suspension gel, which is perfect for any product of this type.I have also found that my blood sugar readings have lowered and I have better control of them. If anyone would like to know more “Google” Fucoidan and look at the history and if you want to talk to me , anyone can phone me on 07765 892839 or can e-mail me on steve.hatch2@btinternet.com

Seabuckthorn

Hey All!I'm new here, but I am very interested in nutrition and what it can do for people...especially those with various kinds of cancers.I have done a lot of research into Seabuckthorn. Seabuckthorn is a berry that is so full of nutrients that I think it may be the most nutritional food on the earth. There are all kinds of medical research done on seabuckthorn. Unlike other fruits out there like mangosteen, the actual berry (not just particular compounds within the berry) has been tested numerous times and has been listed as in China since 1977 as a recognized medicine. There are over 190 bioactive nutrients. The antioxidants are so potent because of the of the huge diversity of them. The all tend to work in synergy with one another to produce a "super" anitioxidant food. Anyway, just like magosteen being available in juice form, so is seabuckthorn. There is a new juice made with MORE seabuckthorn puree then most other "key" ingredients in juices like xango. If you do your due diligence you will find that seabuckthorn is one of the most nutritional foods on earth and its benefits cannot go unnoticed. For information on the juice you can email me at --- Message edited by CancerCompass staff: for personal protection, email address removed. Please review CancerCompass Member Guidelines at http://www.cancercompass.com/common/guidelines.html ----

Has anyone had any experience with the Herbalife Products? I took the Herbalife off and on since 2000 and haven't been on them until recently. My Doctor recommended the Reliv, I tried it for 4 days and couldn't cope with the headaches... so I went back on the Herbalife. The Doctor and some Reliv reps told me that the headaches were due to my colon and liver being so toxic. My Mom had colon cancer and spinal cancer, so I'm looking at different avenues to get healthier. I'm undergoing spinal decompression right now through Spinal Aid Center and the doctor there is who recommended Reliv while I go through treatments.

Nutrition

I thought I might ask some of the "experts" out here what foods are good for someone who is struggling with GBM Grade 4 brain tumor. My father-in-law was diagnosed just two weeks ago, he starts radiation next week and Chemo the following. Unfortunately they had to treat a Staph infection first.

Anything on foods that heal would be wonderful!
Thank you and I'm sending warm thoughts for everyone!

Why Juicing+

Yes, ma'am, the juicing "fanatics" have several strong points: 1)as another said, the nutrients are concentrated, & much more accessible than in the whole veggies; 2) veggies should be more prevalent than fruit, as they cause a milder fluctuation in the glycemic index, & often offer more nutrition; 3)The energy (lots!)used for digestion of whole foods is largely conserved by juicing, making it available for the many needs of the already weakened patient; 4)another consideration, that the liver will finally have the energy/resources to unload toxins, points to the need for even MORE frequent bowel movements,
which may be encouraged via psyllium("metamucil")
ingestion, alternated with meals, as often as necessary to keep-'em-goin'! 5)In this same vein, we need to move so our lymph system can; so those who will not/cannot exercise(one briskly walked mile per day, min.)should obtain a
homeopathic lymph stimulant(resources available, local & by mail)6)juicing will help elevate the cellular pH, an esential for those with cells-gone-crazy; 7)will also provide lots of fluids, and not quite so much water needs be drunk(especially if one dilutes the juice with PURE H2O, for better digestion) 8)please also remember that juice is food, and does still need to be mixed with salivary enzymes, so the stomach
acid may activate them! 9)God bless, and keep your attitude up; with a good attitude, everything works; without it nothing does! Sincerely, Michael M.

Diets For People That Have Had Their Stomach Removed.

My Name is Bernadine, I have friend that is 56 years old that has stomach cancer, His entire stomach was removed August 12, 2004. He seems to be doing very good and the doctor told him that they got all of the cancer. He is taking chemo now. He told me the doctor told him he could eat whatever he wanted to eat, (which didn't sound right to me) and he has been eating whatever he wants. I prepare food for him and I would like like to know what foods are best for him to eat since he does not have a stomach and what foods he should avoid. Ensure, Boost and Soy Milk gives him a lot of gas after drinkig them. I would like to know if there is anything else on that order that he could try. After he eats, his stomach boils (correction his intestine boils) and he has a lot of gas. I don't know anyone that does not have a stomach, but believe that part of his discomfort is a result of his diet. I would like for anyone that can offer me some advice to respond to me. Thank You.

Living With Breast Cancer

Just a word of encouragment to people with mets. I found out I had mets to liver and bones in June 2001. I went to CTCA and they gave me an
attitude of hope. Keep looking and trying different treatments. I also developed a lung mets in 2002. I have been on some type of chemo for 4 years. I do believe the help that the
naturopathic doctors gave me through supplements has help my body stay stronger to fight this diease. But hope is necessry and I must deal all the times with that negative thought pattern. I have been taking oral Xeloda and Femara since Aug 2003 and I saw my tumor mark drop and liver tumors shrink. In march 2003 I was so sick I came home on oxygen. Now I can volunteer some hours at a free health clinic. So don't give up--just give trying and searching for what is the right treatment for you. I praise CTCA for their approach, that you treat the whole person. Nutrition is important despite what local physicians say. If you can go to CTCA I believe it would be worth you time. I haven't bee back since Jan 2003 but I will always be thankful I went. Life is good so enjoy whatever days that God has granted. Love and laugh. Marie In NC
