Hard red spot roof mouth - surgery

I am scheduled for a biopsy next week on two, small, hard, red spots on the roof of my mouth. No pain. The oral surgeon said it could be a mixed adenoma -of the salivary glands, or another type of benign lesion. I am worried sick. Has anyone had something similar? What is the surery process? I appreciate any feedback.

Dentist has me worried... I think it is jaw/mouth cancer

Hi. I am a fairly young mom with a lot of fear going around about my dental issues. First of all, I put off my dentist for almost 6/7 years. I know that sounds horrible, I just had changes of insurance, lots of things going on, and I don't know why, but put dentistry off. Well, recently I went to a new dentist for a check up. All was going well with cleanings, etc... but at the end of the appointment, the dentist says "I have an x-ray that I am going to send to an Oral Surgeon... we see this a lot, it might be such and such, just there is something on here, some swirls and a root that is missing." I was concerned, but at the same time, the dentist didn't act too worried. Well, I had to go back in to the office for some fillings and I told him about my visit-that it wasn't until a month or so. He said "that's good- as long as he didn't say "come in tomorrow" that is probably a good sign." He didn't seem overly concerned. And, the Oral surgeon saw the x-ray and was very friendly and brief- noticed the reabsorbed tooth, and said "There are about 6/7 different things this could be... I would put anything negative at the bottom of my list. Don't worry, etc..." Ok, so I kind of cooled off for a moment... I had to go back to my original dentist for another refile of my tooth as it still did not fit correctly. Now, the dentist(Last Monday) asks about my date of appointment again. I told him and he marks it down in his computer/calendar. He brings up the resorption of the root again on the molar of the jaw. I said is this a cyst? He said it was definitely not, a cyst would be round and dark. My cyst is scattered and radiopaque. I told him I was scared, but he said just wait to the biopsy comes back, etc... I have been a mess since that day. I am going on every oral/neck cancer site and reading the news. I don't think this could be anything good. I am actually making myself physically sick about this. I do not have pain in the area, but notice that I have had a neurological thing from time to time- I do grind my teeth at night, though. I would wake up sometimes with huge gouges in my cheek and tongue, which I forgot to mention- which one time I had tongue numbness, but noticed bites around my tongue. I am just praying everything is ok, but I really don't know. Another Oral Surgeon looked at this, as I had to move my date up - I called and requested, but they said it could be kept at the end of the month or earlier, whatever I wanted to do. The OS said it "might be an Odontoma" but I think that is just to brush me off, as that would effect a child, not a 30 ish woman. I am thinking they KNOW it is the worst, but are trying to avoid telling me right now. Please someone help me with this. Also, how soon will they give me the biopsy report? I don't want to be scheduled to have a consultation with anyone.. so frightening to hear the news, I mean I know that is what happens. However, if the OS suspects that it could be benign, would he tell my husband following the surgery for peace of mind? Thanks.

swallowing after tongue cancer

My husband had tongue cancer surgery on March 18. Two thirds of his tongue was removed and the tongue was rebuilt by a plastic surgeon. It looks like a real tongue, but it is not a "god given tongue". He is on a feeding tube and will be starting chemo and radiation within the next few weeks. He cannot swallow and was told not to even try yet because if he tries to swallow and something goes wrong, the fluid may end up in his lungs. We had a speech therapist come to the house a few times when he came home from the hospital and she gave him some exercises to do. She know longer makes house calls. We will be checking on some speech therapy and will have that swallowing test done, but should we wait til after the radiation ? I hear the radiation does a "number" on your throat, etc. and it may make it more difficult for him to go to therapy while undergoing radiation. He is so worried that he will not ever be able to eat again. The base of his tongue was left untouched/no cancer there.

Hi all, I have been reading some of your messages and am getting both relieved and horrified at the same time. I had my right tonsil and extensive margins removed March 23. They found the stage 2 cancer in right tonsil only and will be sending me for a Pet scan to look at an enlarged lymph node on the left side of my neck. The Oncologist did not like how much weight I lost during the surgery. I only weigh 115 lbs and am 5' 6 1/2". I have gained 2 lbs, was 113 lbs. I think he is afraid of what the radiation might do. I agrred to have a PEG tube put in before. Frankly, I am really afraid of all of this. I keep getting nauseous just thinking about it. Wish I could be more positive! I am even reading "A New Earth" by Eckard Toole. Seems to work for awhile, and then I just feel like doomsday! Any advice on how to get through all this? I have my first appointment with the radiologist this week. Thanks! Sincerely,Marilyn

Hard lump in cheek

Hello, I am worried about my mother who had a hard lump in her cheek or gumline. The dentist told her it is near a lymph node and to keep watching it. She has Chronic Lymphoceatic Cancer and has been a smoker forever. She's not too concerned and plans to talk to her oncologist, but Im wondering has anyone here had that? It feels alot like the tumor I found on my breast last year too... like a marble.

Base of Tongue Cancer

I found mine by finding a lump on my shoulder. A CT scan indicated cancer at the base of my tongue. A biopsy said it was negative. Fortunately my ENT needle biopsied my shoulder lump and it came back positive. He asked for a review of the throat biopsy and this time it came back positive. I was fortunate in that the first chemo made the shoulder lump disappear and after the second my oncologist said wait two weeks and go back to the ENT for a check. He could see no cancer and that everything looked normal. I am continuing visits every few months to my oncologist and pray everything continues positively.

Recurring Sores on Lip and Inside Mouth

I am 35, female, and have been having recurring sores on my lips and on the inside of my lips (in my mouth) for the last two months. I get 1-5 sores at a time, and they usually clear up in about 10 days, and just as they do, I get one or more sores again in different places. All the spots are mainly red, irritated and slightly puffy. I've had cold sores and canker sores and for some reason they don't feel the same. I did have one sore in the crack between my lips which took weeks to heal. The sores inside my mouth are usually red with a white center that goes away after awhile and it just remains red. The ones on the outside of my lips are red and sometimes have a yellow/gray center with puss. As they heal the spots are mainly red and slightly puffyThe fact that the sores do clear up and appear in different place everytime - could this be a symptom of oral cancer? I would really appreciate any input you would have, thanks.

help? worried about spot in mouth

So I got this white spot in my mouth about 2 days ago. At first I figured it was a small cut, because I was eating some sort of food and it did scratch my gums, so i figured thats all it was. It's in an odd spot too..its on the top gum, kind of at the point where the gums and the skin in the back of the lip meet..up in there. Then, because Im a hypochondriac, I started checking symptoms of oral cancer...this white spot is the only thing that would be a sign. And it hasn't gotten bigger. I also put a bit of peroxide on it, and it got little..bubbles- like what would happen if you put it on a cut on the skin.I'm hoping it's just a canker sore. I have smoked for a year and a half also. So I know that increases the chances of cancer.I plan to get it checked out if it does not go away within 2 weeks or so.Any help is appreciated.

something wrong with my right back tongue

I have chewed Copenhagen for 15 years and tend to drink a lot of beer on a regular basis. Yes, I know I shouldn't but I do. I am 45 now. About 6 weeks ago, I noticed a strange feeling in my mouth/throat that has not gone away.It is at the base of my tongue on the right side where it is kind of connected to the cheek-throat. I cannot see it. I went to an Urgent Care on Saturday to have it checked out. I told the MD I was worried it may be cancer. She asked me right away if I "chew tobacco". I lied and said I quit about a year ago as I have had 3 dips a day now and spit it out after 2 minutes without fail. She used a tongue compressor the best she could and said it looked "irritated". She said she didnt think it was cancer and that I should get cancer in my gums and lips before my throat area. I dont trust that analogy so I am seeing a ENT next Monday. I have alot of anxiety and am telling myself that it most likely is "cancer" because in my eyes, it cant get any worse than that. I am expecting the worst so I wont be shocked. I hate addictions. Do you ?

Hi thereMy husband has just been diagnosed with stage 1 tongue cancer. we have opted not to have surgery but to try cellular zeolite, powdered zeolite and blue-green algae as well as monavie (acai berry juice). it feels really scary to not go conventional intervention. at the moment we are both still trying to process the news. the future looks a bit bleak at the moment. we are really hoping that prayer combined with the natural products will be the answer to 'beating cancer'!Has anyone else had success with zeolite who is in stage 1 cancer? i have read a lot about stage 3 and stage 4. it has been really encouraging reading other folks' testimonies and being able to 'communicate' with others who have faced and are facing similar trials! at the moment we feel very alone in this fight. Thanks for listening.Sue

Swollen Tongue

New to this board.... My wife has recently been diagnosed with tongue cancer with involved lymph nodes (33 years old non-smoker ect...not pre-disposed ,cancer does not play favourites). She has had surgery: hemi-glossectomy (free-flap reconstruction) and bilateral neck disection. She has just finshed 6 weeks of radiation to the oral cavity and neck. She is recovering nicley but after radiation treatments her tongue has become very swollen. Has anyone out there with similar treatments experienced this side effect and if so do you have an indication what causes it and its duration. Johnny

For about a month now i have had a small bump on my cheek at the very back. It is right in between my wisdom teeth. When i first had gotten the bump my teeth had felt weird they didnt bite together pr\operly and it was kinda painful to bite down. The bump did felt like fluid was in it but it had gotten flat n sometimes it gotten back full again. But now the bump has an imprint of a bite mark on it but this thing is not going away. If you look at it closely it kinda looka like there is a hole in it. I'm 19 years old and I have been smoking for about 5 yrs so i am terrified that i may have cancer. I had an oral surgeon look at it and he told me it was nothing but biting from my wisdom teeth but i feel like it more than that. But before this bump had came up about a month b4 that my lymph nodes were irritated making it difficult to swollow along with weird nose bleeds that only happened about 2 times and i went to a doctor about that problem but she just gave me antibiotics and then it went away. Now along with the bump in my mouth it feels like my glands under my jaw are swollen!! Are these doctors playing around with me?? What is this??? Is there anyone out there experiencing the same or similar symptoms???

small bumb under tounge

hey guys, im 18, and have used smokless tobacco for about 5 months. I have a small red bumb, right on the vein underneath the tounge. I have only had the bump for about 3 weeks, it is painless and has not incresed in size, and has none of the symptoms of oral cancer. I also have needed a root canal on my number 18 tooth for a while now. Im just wondering if it is an infection from a mixture of the root canal and the tobacco, or just a random bumb? thanks!

He has had severe neck tightness (like a noose or tight collar) and shoulder pain which is worse on the left side. He does physical therapy for range of motion in his shoulders. About a week ago the pain in the left shoulder/arm became significantly worse. The family doctor gave him a shot of cortisone & Novocaine, but that didn't help at all. Any thoughts? Thanks,Angel
