New Struggle

This past week my husband Dan had surgery by an ENT surgeon to remove what we thought was a benign tumor along his jaw line, right below his ear. During surgery the doc and the frozen section pathology determined it was cancer. The tumor was large too - hotel bar of soap size. While in he went ahead and did a neck dissection and the cancer was in the lymph nodes as well. We are now awaiting final pathology and our referral to an oncologist. The reading I have done shows that this is really rare. I would love to connect with someone dealing with this same thing. After next weeks appointments I will have a more detailed/accurate diagnosis. Thanks, Michelle

Need Your Help

Hi Everyone,I'm 60 years young, I have this mucus in the back of my throat, I swallow constantly and it never goes away, lately I've been coughing alot, I try to spit the mucus out,and only succeed once in a while, even though I succeed, it still seems like the same amount is left in my throat. Also, when I cough of late, I start gagging and have to throw up, even when there's nothing in my stomach other than the morning coffee's. I constantly clear my throat all day, every day, and whenever I need to yell for whatever reason,..I really cough alot, loosing my voice entirely, and I have to stop in order to get my voice back. Many years ago, I had my throat checked because I've always had this condition as long as I can remember, and then after my father passed away from what started out as throat cancer, I was very nervous. I believe I got an ultra sound on my neck, plus another specialist put a tube down my throat, and nothing was found at the time. It seems to be getting worse than ever, and I would really appreciate for anyone that has had these symptoms to let me know if they were diagnosed with some kind of cancer. Thanks, Zeidler

need info

I have a very dear friend thats 62 yrs old and was diagnosed with parotid gland cancer in March of last year (2006). He has chosen NOT to seek treatment. It has mets to the lymph system and has caused nerve damage as well. I would like to know what to expect in the future. It has become a day to day challenge, but I respect his decision and want to be supportive. I dont know anyone that has experienced anything like this and would love to hear from anyone that might be able to shed some light on what we're in for. Thanks Darlene

Chronic Salivary Gland Problems

Hello, I had my whole thyroid removed June 2005 because of papillary thyroid cancer then had radioactive iodine treatment -- the treatment worked and I am doing fine now. However, shortly after the treatment I developed swollen and sore salivary glands. They told me is was a result of the radioactive iodine damaging my salivary glands. It is very painful and uncomfortable and they have tried many things such as medication, Salagen along with a new procedure called a Sialoendoscopy - nothing has really helped. Has anyone experienced similiar problems? If so, what has been done to give any relief?
thanks

Diagnosed w/ Adenocarcinoma of The Mouth

I am 24 yrs old, and recently diagnosed w/adenocarcinoma of the mouth. I had surgery last month and had the salivary tumor removed, among tonsils, an impacted wisdom tooth (under the tumor) and minor glands in my neck.

The neck glands tested positive and I will now have to have radiation treatment. Is anybody going through this? I'd like a companion or just someone to talk to that can inform me and help me get through this. Thanks

Squamous/acinic/related?????

Hello again
In addition to the acinic cell carcinoma of the parotid gland, two years ago I had a spot on the same side on my neck diagnosed as squamous cell carcinoma (skin cancer). My doctor reassured me it has nothing to do with my acinic cell. I believe doctors do not know everything. Also have read some cancers such as acinic cell are very hard to diagnos. I would appreciate any information.
Thanks again

Acinic Cell Carcinoma

Hello Everyone
My name is Penny and I was diagnosed with Acinic Cell Carcinoma, a very rare form of Parotid Gland Cancer. Four years ago I had surgery to remove the tumor and so far I am cancer free. I do have concerns about recurrences of this type of cancer, and also problems I am having lately in the head, neck and face. My doctor did a cat scan in January but found nothing. Recently he sent me to an oral surgeon thinking it was a jaw problem. I have pain in the jaw, ear and back of head, all on the same side I had the cancer. If anyone has more info please let me know.
Thanks and good luck to all!
