Beta Carotene and Lung cancer

Hi, My father in law has non-small cell lung cancer that has metastisized to his brain and liver. I started him on the Reliv supplement, but am now concerned because I discovered the NCI studies that indicated beta carotene caused higher incidenes of cancer for smokers. I am assuming the risk is the same or worse for cancer patients, btw, he is still smoking :-(!! Do any of you know what amounts are considered unsafe for a smoker/ cancer patient and/or what amounts were used in the study? Also, are there any supplements without beta carotene?

Cayenne pepper cured my prostate cancer

In April 2006 I was diagnosed with prostate cancer after a biopsy - Gleeson score 6(3,3). I was strongly urged to have the prostate removed immediately. I refused & starting doing research. I found a Cedars-Sinai Medical Center/UCLA School of Medicine study that said that capsaicin (the stuff that makes pepper hot) fed to rats bred to have human prostate cancer had caused the tumors to die! (Here is a link to a good recap of the study - http://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2006-03/aafc-pch03130 )I immediately started taking cayenne pepper capsules daily. I took the equivalent human dose from the study, doubled that & made that my goal. I gradually consumed more each week until I reached what I thought was the right dose. I had improved symptoms within the first two weeks - urination was easier - I had not been able to reach orgasm at the time of diagnosis but that too improved & is still improving.Last month I decided to see a urologist to see what was involved in "Watchful Waiting" - he wanted to do another biopsy since it had been two years - I agreed & the results came back clean - they found no cancer - not a trace! My doctor was stunned & said that in 18 years he had never seen such a result. We had it double checked & I am indeed cancer free.I am confident it was the cayenne that made the tumor disappear - given the study results. I plan to keep taking it indefinitely & I recommend it to any male who has been diagnosed with either BPH or prostate cancer.I have no financial interest in any cayenne provider. I would be happy to discuss my regimine & disage with anyone interested.

Folic Acid - supplement

I have read several articles about folic acid's association with an increased risk of breast cancer in post menopausal women. The best I can figure out is that we shouldn't be taking more than 400 mcgs total per day. My daily vitamin has 400, and when I checked my Vitamin B Complex -- there's another 400. Plus all that's added to our fortified foods. I'm going to stop taking my B Complex and start taking a B12 only, along with my daily. But, beware -- the new Centrum Silver has upped it's folic acid to 500 mcgs.I have been told by my doctors to avoid taking mega levels of any vitamins. I'd like to know of a good vitamin that has the appropriate levels of the daily vitamins we need - that doesn't have over 400 mcgs of folic acid or iron in it. Thanks to you and to this Board. There is so much good information and sharing here. I'm six years out, Stage II -- 54 years old.

Essential Thrombocythemia and Hydrea

Hello. I am 37 yr old female diagnosed in 2001 with ET. I was on Agrylin for almost 5 yrs. Side effects included migraines and hear palpitations. Now I moved a year ago to Colorado and the new doctor took me off Agrylin. New studies suggested no meds until platelets reached 1.5 million. In the past month it has gone from 1.2, to 1.5 and in the past week has reached 1.7 mi. I was told by my doctor I need to start Hydrea today. I am very reluctant to start. I have heard so many bad things about the meds. Hair loss, leg and mouth ulcers, etc. I have been dieting the past month to get ready for a wedding that I am in on Sat. I have gone back to red meat for the protein and have lost 10 lbs. I work out every day.. weights and walking, etc. My cholesterol is the best it has ever been and my heart it in good shape... so why am I getting worse?? Very frustrated. I think if I go back to my old diet it will fix itself.. but my doc says diet has nothing to do with it. If I choose to hold off on the Hydrea am I taking a risk?? I also think stress is a big part of the elevated plts. and once this wedding is over and I get back to my normal diet it will go back to where it was.... but do I take the chance of stroke? Can you tell I really do not want to take the Hydrea??does anyone have any suggestions of what I could take along with the Hydrea like supplements to ease the side effects, etc? Thanks for listening.. just very scared at this point!Nikki

True cancer cures!

It is very difficult to find out what is real and what is hype but there are many supplements available which will actually cure cancer.

I have been doing lots of research, three family members are suffering from various types of cancer, so this has been my motivation.

I found websites containing scientific research articles which show which treatments are effective. I have been amazed by what I have found and want to share this valuable information.

Many of these products are available at your local supermarket, healthfood store, or online.

Please read my article at: http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/262481/alternative_
to find out how to do your own research.

If you have any questions about specific issues, I will try to point you in the right direction.

God bless you all!

Watch out for salespeople. Here's what to do...

Some unethical "snake oil" salespeople will make exaggerated claims here about products they are selling. When you see a URL (web address) copy or type into your browser only the address up to the com part. Anything after that part "/blah-blah" should be removed. In most cases you will still get the company that the "salesperson" is recommending, but now you've cut off his/her sales!

Side Effects of Lapacho?

It was recommended to my father by an MD ND PhD in homeopathic philosophy that he take Lapacho. My father has metastisized kidney cancer and is on Sutent. There is now some concern that the combination of the Lapacho and Sutent may have caused his platelets to fall to dangerously low levels--he started to bleed internally. We discussed taking the Lapacho with his encologist before he started it, and were told it was fine. I guess it's hard to know what's fine and what's not when it comes to herbs. They can be helpful in treating a condition, but just like a drug, they too can have side effects--sometimes dangerous ones.Anyone know anything about the Lapacho, besides that it's supposed to help kill cancer cells?
