just need yr opinion

Hi, i am just new on board. around 3 weeks ago, my father was diagnosed to have stage2 rectal cancer. The doctor suggested for him to have the surgery. He just turned 80 a week ago. My siblings have already consulted his heart doctor and he said to go with the surgery. But we need second opinion and we are looking for alternative way to treat the cancer. We have talked to friends to get opinions so we can weigh what is best for him. We do not want to decide on something that may risk or shorten his life faster. He looks very strong but he is quite afraid of doctors. Do anyone here in message board diagnosed with cancer and did not took any surgery but only controlled his diet? I mean is there any natural healing can be done? We need to consider his age that is why we are also looking for other possibilities....hope you can share some with me.....God bless....thank you. elsie

Everyone is different, but I will share with you about a friend of mine whose mom was 80 when they found her cancer. She was not overweight only 90 pounds and in fairly good health and she made it thru the surgery just fine. She was a smoker and the docs did have some concerns about that. (She has since quit.) The docs did not recommend any chemo or radiation, just the tumor removal and she is now 86 and seems to be doing pretty well considering.Good luck!!!
