I just wrote a forum but thought this one should be separate. As my 54 year old mother just been diagnosed with stage 4 gallbladdder, we are looking for other surgeons to see if there is anything else they can do. We are trying to make her an appointment with Dr. Fong at Sloan Kettering..Also- what diet should she be on, what medicines can anyone reccomend? She is a healthy woman- if anyone has any reccomendations I would appreciate it greatly.
My 62 yr old healthy dad was diagnosed after a large gallstone caused pain in midDec. We quickly were able to get him into see an oncologist in NJ Sloan office with the recommendation from his primary physician. He then sent us to NYC to meet with Dr. D'Angelica. They did lots of tests, etc. and did a liver resection a few weeks ago. His cancer was localized. Let me know if you have any questions that I can help you with.

My mom 85yr old is having gallbladder cancer too. The gallbladder was resected in Aug 2006, and cancer was found inside. In Dec 2006, she was treated by Tomotherapy, an image guided RT treatment, to 54Gy in 15 fractions owing to local recurrence. Now she is having an oral drug called Xeloda as chemotherapy. Another drug Gemcitabine should also be an effective drug, but we will use it only if there is another recurrence. She is also having Coenzyme Q10 800mg per day as supplement, an antioxidant.

Thank you both. I hear that gemcitabine is a good drug. We have our appointment at Sloane Kettering with Dr.Abou Alfa on the 13th. We will see what he feels is the best treatment for her. Thank you again.
