New Pancreatic Cancer Vaccine

My father has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and is being treated with conventional chemotherapy which helps a little bit. In general however, there is no real hope.

I have been to a medical center in Jerusalem and the physician there told me he is making experiments with cancer vaccine. He hasn't tried it on pancreatic cancer but he believes it could work.

The thing is for the vaccine he needs DNA samples of people with pancreatic cancer who have similar genetic characteristics. This samples cost quite a lot and I think a group of patiants could share samples and significantly lower the costs.

DNA Samples

Why should patient DNA samples cost anything? These can be obtained with a simple inside cheek swab via the mouth. Am I missing something?

Dna Samples

I don't really know which tissues are required for producing the vaccine. Anyway, I thing what's expensive in the process are the test for the DNA classification

Cancer of Pancreas

What was the name of the hospital that you went to in Jerusalem and if you could remember the name of the Doctor that would be great.
Our sister in law has just died and now we find out that this is a gene as her mother, aunt, and uncle all died of the same thing. The daughter is 36 and the son is 32 and we want them to have a test to see if they have the gene. It would be a geat help. Thank you in advance.

Pancreatic Cancer

Hi Elaine,

We had gone to Hadassah Ein-Kerem and the name of the doctor was prof. Shimon Slavin. Good luck to you and your family.
Sorry for the late response, the 15th was my father's funeral.
