Good News!

In 5/04 I was diagnosed with bile duct cancer; advised by prominent doctor in Boston that it was not resectable. However, I found a wonderful surgeon at Lahey Clinic in Burlington who did the resection - taking 3/4 of my liver and revamping my insides! Was able to go back to work within 3 months and then had a recurrence in 1/06 down by the pancreas. The same surgeon did a modified whipple and once again I was able to go back to work within three months. I have had no chemo or radiation and just recently had my first CT scan that showed no words: recurrence or cholangiocarcinoma. I am 56 years old and hoping that my words of good news will inspire many. I did not think I would live past 53 and I am truly grateful for the additional 3 years and I am looking forward to many more. My prayers are with all of you who are going through this. Please feel free to contact me.Sue

Iris:I am sorry about your husband. I hope you have truly exhausted your search for help. I know there is a pill out for liver cancer now and that maybe if the liver tumor shrinks enough, he might be able to have surgery. Not know where you live, I don't know if you have checked out Dr. Roger Jenkins at Lahey Clinic in Burlington, MA. He is fantastic and if it can be done, he will do it. Please keep me posted. I will add your family to my prayers. AlwaysSue

T&T Did he have resection done and if so when? Since mine was only in the bile duct and not yet into the liver...it was slightly different. How old is your husband? Is he having to do any chemo or radiation? I will certainly pray that your husband continues to do well.My best wishes,Sue

Hey Sue,Sorry I was not back to this website since last time I sent you an email. My husband had a liver resection last year and has been doing well since then. Of course, he is so afraid of facing a cancer recurrence. He has been going to an oncologist to continue monitoring his liver condition. He was just through another scan last Monday. He and I are waiting for the test's result. Love, T.

Heart:When I asked my doctor this last visit, I was told that chemo, radiation and a transplant were out of the question for my type of cancer (which I do not have anymore). I have known from the beginning that that was the issue and that a resection was my only hope. So far it has worked so...I hope the surgery/transplant has gone well. Please keep me posted.Sue

My wife has been diagnosed with cholangio/gall bladder cancer. Asked for many opinions and no surgeon will operate. started on chemotherapy 3 weeks ago and do'nt know the response yet. cancer has spread to liver and local lymph nodes. Doctors did not give much hope. Anybody knows where can I get any help and can do more to help her.

Questions

My father has been back and forth from hospital to hospital and doctor to doctor, and they have ran many differnt test's on him to see if he has bile duct cancer. Everything has come back negitive but they whole right side of his liver has shut down and now the left side is working extra hard. He just found out they want to do a liver biospy on his liver and they are always talking about taken out 3/4 of his liver. It has not been comfirmed that he has cancer so why does he need this done? Please if anyone has any information let me know a.s.a.p because they want to do this soon!! and if anyone has any information about bile duct cancer I will listen to it all.. Thank You.
