abcess after surgery

My brother had rectal cancer surgery one year ago, he has had to have drainage bags six different times for abcess's caused by an infection he got in the hospital, the doctor's say they do not know what is causing them. Has anyone else ever had this problem.

RE: abcess after surgery

Yes, My dad was diagnosed with rectal cancer in Feb. 2006. He was in hospital for 7 days and went home. 8-10 days later he developed a high fever and had a ct scan, it showed a absess at surgery site. He went to hospital for 14 days on very strong antibiotics and came home with picc line so we could do antibiotics at home through iv. He was so sick. I really think it was a staph infection from surgery. He finally got rid of it and so far no more infections.cynthia
