RE: Use of Avastin for Bladder Cancer Metasteses

I received a chemo regimen called FOLFOX for colon cancer. I went to another highly respected oncologist for a second opinion and she recommended that Avastin be added to the Folfox. My HMO agreed to the Avastin, which is very expensive, after I brought the information to their attention. I took Avastin w/ Folfox for 6 months and continued on Avastin for 6 more months. I completed the treatments in March of this year and in May cancer recurred in my ureter of my right kidney. My HMO oncologist is now placing me on a ILF regimen, but stated that he would not prescribe Avastin again. He said it " Avastin was a failure the first round and it would not help in this new regimen". I don't know its effectiveness, but it is supposed to be a great drug. A second opinion never hurts. Hope this info is of some use to you. Good luck. Richard
