CancerCompass message board discussion started by Holly1014 on 7/2/2007 http://www.cancercompass.com/message-board/message/all,13972,0.htm Sun, 23 Nov 2008 00:00:00 GMT Sun, 23 Nov 2008 00:00:00 GMT http://backend.userland.com/rss RSS.NET: http://www.rssdotnet.com/ My mom has been diagnosed w/ Stage 4 non-operable small-cell lung cancer.  We just got the results of her first round of chemotherapy (done 6/11).  They gave her Carboplatin & Alimta (research trial).  They cannot find the cancer in her lymph glands anymore & the tumor in her lungs appears to be breaking up.  I don't know about the cancer in her back.  The family is so excited and happy.She almost didn't continue with the chemo, due to the side effects.  When she does chemo today, they are only giving her 75% of what she originally had & giving her IVs on Tue. & Thurs. to re-hydrate her.  Hopefully this will lessen the side-effects.I was wondering if there is anyone else who has gone through the same chemotherapy & what their results are.  I would love to hear from others.Thanks,Holly Holly1014 Mon, 02 Jul 2007 00:00:00 GMT Holly,My 73 year old husband was diagnoised with small cell lung cancer, stage 3B on July 19, 2008.  He took his first "aggressive" chemo. one week later.  It consisted of carbo. and VP16.  He was had no side effects except fatigue and loss of hair.  He had lost 20 lbs. by the time of diag. and this week at his second treatment, he had gained 3 lbs., stopped coughing, and his voice was improved.  His last treatment day was this past Fri. (20th), and today he is having quite a bit of fatigue.  He exercises regularly, forceses himshelf to eat, drinks 3 Boosts each day and takes a multivit daily.  His attitude is one of "I'm going to win this battle", and does everything his oncologist tells him to do.  We are hopeful that his next CT scan will show much improvement.  He also has an abdominal  aortic anurisim which is operable size, but we have chosen to fight the cancer battle first.  Prayer, attitude and family/friend support are all as important as the chemo.    I am not familiar with Alimta, but I'm sure it is also a good treatment plan.     May God bless you and your family as you go through this.  I'd love to hear how treatment is going for you guys.    Daisy DAISY373 Sun, 22 Jun 2008 00:00:00 GMT
