Started chemo yesterday!

I had my CT scan last Friday to see if the cancer was anywhere else besides the rectal cancer and I got the word yesterday that the CT was all Clear! Thank you Lord! I also was hooked up to my new little buddy 5FU (perhaps I should name him) by continuous infusion. It's been 24 hours now and I felt great and slept great. Now I'm starting to have a funny feeling in my mouth, can't explain it exactly but I think it's the start of the metallic taste and my mouth feels like it has a couple of not sore spots but somethings different. Has anyone else out there been on the continuous infusion and how long did it take to get the mouth sores, neuropathy or any other symptoms. I'm using a lot and I mean a lot of lotion on my hands and feet to try and ward off the trouble and I started salt water gargles earlier today. THANK GOD THE CT SCAN WAS CLEAR I CAN GO THROUGH ANYTHING NOW!

Wonderful news!I think you already named your 5FU "Buddy". That's a cute name.I read somewhere that rinsing with Mylanta helps the mouth sores. That and avoiding caffeine and spicy/acidic foods. My Mom so far, hasn't suffered with any mouth sores, but gets the "bad taste" and simply nothing appeals to her.Wishing you an uneventful course, and peace, as you reflect on your good news!!!! Blessings~Beth

I seen on my MSN homepage where it tells some news, it said that mouthwash (Maybe Listerine) was good to rince with. Check it out on line and make sure before trying it, it should be easy to find something on it becaue it was just this week that I saw it.Cynthia
