Vulvectomy vs. wide exsicion???

I have read alot on this site about people having a vulvectomy and have recently had my second wide excision of the vulva. What is the difference between the two? Also, how does the doctor detect if it has spread to your lymph nodes?

Usully a vulvectomy requires removal of part or most of the vulva, major and or minor labia. If you have a choice a wide excision is always better and less disfiguring than a vulvectomy. To see if it has spread to your lymph nodes they usually do a physical exam, feeling to see if the nodes are enlarged as well as a CT scan.
