Colon/Liver cancer alternatives

Just found out today that my 89 year old mom has exhausted her last chemo option ( Vectabix). (Did Xeloda and Avastin for five months then that stopped working.) So, she is a tough old thing and not ready to give up. Also feels just fine. My questions are two fold. One: Does anyone have any experience with the alternative therapies? Essiac tea etc?
Two: Any idea of a time frame here before she begins to slide downhill if these alternatives don't work?
She wants to get her ducks in a row but there is still a good bit of denial going on. Age in her case is just a number to her. She is thoroughly in charge of her life, nothing wrong "upstairs" at all.

Thanks for any input!
