my Partner Has Cll

Hi

My partner was recently diagnosed with CLL early stage. His
white cells increase VERY fast...
As he was told he had to wait until some symptoms occured, or
the cell count hit the roof, he started some nutrition
supplement like green tea, reikki mushrooms, Herbal
concoction from chinatown in NYC...

What could I do to help him the best, and avoid him to self
medicate himself?
Are there support groups for couple?

I find it difficult to find the right thing to say...

any advice will be more than welcome

Thank you

Praising God

Hi, My husband is 39 yrs. old and we found out in FEB. of this year he has CLL. He was very tired and we thought he had a cold. He has NEVER been in the hospital in his life except for being born. We were very scared and all I could think about was somthing happening to him. We have since become adapted to the things we can and cant do. We live in a very small town and really dont have access to a lot of herbal teas that actually might make a difference. We watch out for any fresh fruits or veggies because thats a NO-NO. And also zap the pepper- do not season with it at all. His white count was 250,000 when diagnosed with it topping 420,000 befor he could be admitted. Hes doing grest now and we only have 1 more chemo treatment befor we set up for transplant. Just knowing that we arnt the only ones going through this really helps. We would love to keep in touch with you. God Bless, KIM

All The Best...

Hi Kim
Thank you for your message. I wish you all the best for
the transplant, I am glad that your husband is doing
great now and hope for a full recovery after this
transplant.
What about the peper? why is it wrong?
Concerning the tea, as this is an antioxidant it is very
good against the free radicals that might be a causis
for cancer (if I understood well!!) Any tea you can buy
from any supermarket, specially green is good, it
cannot be bad anyway...
I will be happy to stay in touch...

Thanks!

Hi Jo! Im so glad to have someone to talk to- THANK YOU! When we were in the hospital after first being diagnosed- we were placed on a specified leukemia wing. The staff there are awesome. The thing with the pepper is- pepper grows mold naturally- with the white count being so out of wack the body cannot rid itself of the toxin, as yours and mine can- they are very strict about not eating it. Of course when your counts are good you have a little more of a choice - but strict monitoring of your lab is sooooo important. Im going to check into the tea. So much of the time he cant taste to much of anything. Now he loves dill pickles- I buy them by the gallon!!! I would appreciate any new (or old) info. you might find out. I love him with all my heart- and will do anything I can to make this easier on him. Thanks for being there- I'm right with ya! KIM

Anytime

Kim. It's good "talking" with you. We live in NY, so I guess it makes it easier to have access to everything. But Nobody told us about the pepper!!!
What about the taste? A. lost his taste 2 months ago and the doc could not tell us if it was related or not to CLL...do you have any info about that? Does your husband work and keeps himself busy? And what about you, how do you deal with that?

no Prob!!

Kim. Don't worry, I know how it is, the stress...you have to do
something to get the pressure out of you, like running,
painting...or whatever. It has nothing to do with you being mean.
This period is difficult for everybody and even if you are not the
one being sick, you are going through that, I mean the disease, as
well with the same intensity
This is a GREAT news for the transplant. I know it is very exciting.
I wish you all the best.
Give me some news when you can.

Question About Your Post in 7/2005

My husband (39 years old) has just been diagnosed with cll. He ct scan is this week...we are hoping for stage 0. Right now is wbc is 12.3 but his lymphocite and neutraphil ratio is reversed. I know you wrote your email over a year ago. I hope you have good news about your husband. You mentioned in your post you stay away from fresh fruit and veggies? Why? Also, why avoid pepper? This is all so new and very overwhelming. Any info or insight would be wonderful. Thanks.
