Lupron & radiation

My husband had prostate removal Jan 2003 and now we are having rising PSA levals. Doctor is sugesting radiation treatments along with Lupron injection. He is wanting a Lupron injection now and one in 4 months--planning on the radiation and Lupron injection to start the same day. We were told by someone that he did not start radiation until 60 days after the Lupron injection. Material he sent us tells of the good results at doing this. We are wondering if we need to insist that the radiation wait a few weeks. Do you have any help on this?

It would not hurt to wait awhile ie a month or maybe more and redo the PSA prior to starting the Radiation to document effecacy of the hormonal treatment. Same as with chemo is some cases ie. knowing if the systemic treatment is effective in reducing tumor, since most tumors do shrink , at least , with the irradiation. They should also start Casodex for the first month since lupron will transiently increase the testosterone level and this will counter act it.

My husband has a similar problem, rising Psa after prostate removal, and his oncologist doesnt know where the cancer cells could be,so he doesn't want to radiate the prostate bed. He suggested only Lupron injections.
