Hepatacellular Carcinoma

I was diagnosed with a Hepatacellular Carcinoma primary liver tumor in early March of this year. On March 9th, the tumor was removed at Mayo in Rochester, MN. I was told that they got it all and I did not need radiation or chemotherapy. I had a follow up blood test and CT scan in June and all was okay. I just completed another three month Blood test and CT Scan and am waiting for the results. My advice to anyone with this type of cancer is to seek medical help from a hospital that specializes in liver cancer and has a hepatology dept. They did say that my liver was healthy otherwise. I also understand that the reoccurance rate for this type of cancer is fairly large. I am thankful to our lord and saviour that they were able to diagnose my cancer while it was still operable. I will post the results of my latest testing as soon as I hear.

RE: Hepatacellular Carcinoma

My husband was also diagnosed with Hepatacelluar Carcinoma. His is out side the liver in the portal vein. They could not give him a liver transplant because it was outside. His tumor markers were at 7500 when he was first diagnosed in May. He has been on Nexavr for about 2 months and his tumor marker levels are steadily dropping. About 3 months ago I think they were 700, then last month they were 400 and now last week they were down to 270. The doctor at Ochsner said the nexavar was doing what it was suppose to. They will be doing a ct scan next month to see if anything esle is going on.

My husband was on Nexavar for about 3 or 4 months, which I wrote on this sight last month and it was doing great. Tumor Marker levels were coming down and Cancer was shrinking. Well, we went back this month and they told us that the drug was not working anymore. His tumor markers are going back up and the cancer is growing again. Now we do not know what to do. He feels better and has none of the swelling that other people talk about. They tell us that they cannot tell us how much longet he has because liver cancer is not like colon cancer. If any one has anything they can share with me I would greatly appreciate it.Thanks,Deb
