Cancer is spreading...what should I expect next?

My father was diagnosed with lung and brain cancer in late March. We just learned that it has spread to the liver and gallbladder. The doctors only give him six months. Does anyone know what things I should expect to see happen? What complications are going to start happening?

My husband was given 4-6 months, Metastatic Melanaoma, Stage IV, in Oct 06 and is still here today. Unfortunately, his cancer is still spreading after radiation, gamma ray knife (in brain) and plenty of chemotherapy.I find my husband gets tired a great deal more, appetite has gone down tremendously, side effects from whatever treatments must be dealt with and I do try to watch his mood. It is quite challenging for him and he does have his bad days. His color has changed and seems greyish purple. I encourage him to freely talk about it and keeping the lines of communication open, planning things for the person to look forward to and of course - a fabulous sense of humor always comes in handy.
