Stage III and spread to Ovaries Please help

My mother was diagnosed with stage 3 stomach cancer.. It is at the base of the esophagus and after the PET scan Monday, it has been found in one of her ovaries. I have read so many web sites I am turning is circles. What’s the prognosis for her? What should she and I expect? They had scheduled her for Radiation and Chemotherapy but that’s been cancelled after they found her ovary infected. I do not even know if I am using all the right terminology. I dont even know if I am asking all the right questions. I read most of the other posts and to be honest it did not sound promising. Any help you can give me I would appreciate.

I just would like to say keep smiling and be strong for her. I am 2year in remission breast cancer. As long as there is hope and people we love to help us thourgh then we have more strength to carry us thourgh to what is to come ahead. Ask questions, if that person doesnt have the answer ask for directions to someone who does have the answer. I wish you stregth and I am sorry that you have to pass thourgh this road. Hold you Moms hand. Take Care of Yourself too.

Stay positive and be there for your mom. Make no mistake, this is a serious illness, but some people DO beat it. First see if surgery is an option. If it's not then get a second opinion (which you should do regardless). Try to keep your head up and just ask questions if you need to.

To "soldotna"I don't know where you live nor how much you know of biopsy results of what kind of cancer she has. I would recommend you & she find out if her dr. deals regularly with her type of cancer and whether or not he consults with other specialists. My son opted to go to Oklahoma University Med Center surgeon, and his oncologist consulted with M.D. Anderson in Houston. At age 38, he learned he had stomach cancer that had grown up into the base of his esophagus in Aug. 2004. He was sent directly to a surgeon, who removed the top of his stomach and his entire esophagus--this because the biopsy showed it was adenocarcinoma, which is "one of the top 10 cancers you don't want to have," his doctor said.. (A friend of ours had the esophagus removed and the stomach attached to his throat) He had 4 to 5 months of chemo, no radiation was decided by the doctors. The pathology of removed tissue showed his cancer had grown through the stomach wall and shed cells before he had pain that took him to find out what was wrong, and a year later it showed up in his intestines--no treatment there that would be successful more than a few months so he decidedagainst it. The adenocarcinoma can show up in any organ of the body--some parts are more accepting of radiation and chemo from what I understand. This may not be what you want to hear, but I felt you need to know that the best thing you can do is be informed and be with her, encourage her and support her fight all you can. We believed our son had beat it! He faced it with great faith in God and a fighting attitude--and was shocked when he learned it had spread. Miracles still happen. Our son, his wife and sons, and all our family decided to pray for a miracle healing. He felt closer to the Lord than ever, and in times of bad pain during testing, etc. he was convinced that Jesus carried part of his pain as he focused on Him. If you are Christian, that may be helpful for you to pass along to your Mom. Okiemom

First thank you all for your responses. My Mother has to go in on the 27th to have atleast one of her overies removed. While they are doing that they will also look to the stomach once again to see if it has spread anywhere else. They are telling her that if it has spread to her overies or anywhere else they will not operate to remove her stomach. I have read some posts on here that say they are in stage four and they have been operated on. I am a little confussed.
