colon cancer

It will be a year from x-mas eve 2006 when my son was rushed into surgery for colon cancer at age of 42. Many months of recovery...then the cemo...the cemo did not kill him..(they stopped it just begore... for the aggresive amount became too much for even a strong man).but now the pain in feet..hands..cold...can not put head toward chest...or he convolsess or goes into sesirzer...sleeps ....He will not complain...just takes care of...cooks for...washes clothes...helps with homework..for he .is single father of a 12 yr...8 yr...and 3 yr old...He tells me not to worry, because he will beat this....I drive straight 12 hours one way to help with holidays...or when I can just leave work...which is not often...I am 65 and still need to work to help with his support...but I do not know the prognosis of this illness, since he will not tell me "don't worry mom, I am OK.!!" Has anyone had these horrid after chemo pain? He cannot walk, because of the pain in his feet...he is cold...shaking cold...cannot look down without spas...cannot sleep...(he will not take sleep medication because the kids may need help...during the night...and he does not want to be unconsious(please forgive my spelling...I am not stupid...just dyslecsic)...I want to have a "pen pal"with the same terror to face...and maybe help me to get thru this...I could help another mother to understand a son that continues to try to be the strong one....I do not expect a miracle...for the prayer chains are out there for him in so many languages and faiths...but I am still just a mother...scared...scared///SCARED.....

RE: colon cancer

Hi,I am a survivor as well as a parent of two young girls. I was diagnosed with colon cancer in dec of 2005. I can understand what you must go through to watch your son cope. I also feel for you as a mother. I'm sure your heart must break to see him trying to manage. I also have pain in my feet. Its the worst first thing in the morning when I wake up , then after a while it gets bearable. I 've gotten so used to it that its become a part of me. We learn to bear so much. Your son sounds like he is a very strong person. Its difficult to look after young kids as well as yourself. My prayers are with you and your son. Its an ongoing fight. Everyday is different but we must find the courage to stand up and fight.love sarada
