MM & Amyloidosis

My husband (50 yrs old ) was diagnosed with MM & Amyloidoisis in Mar 07. He rec'd an auto transplant in Jul 07 and will undergo an allogenic on Tuesday (sister was a match). He rec'd melphalan & Dex prior to both transplants. Bone Marrow Biopsy show no measurable cancer! He was staged at stage III in March. He was also diagnosed with Amyloidosis and his skin easily bruises and bleeds but his organs don't seem to be damaged from the AMY yet. Has anyone else had this? Seems quite rare.Hubby is doing OK; he's actually put weight on around his waist and cheeks probably due to the Dex...gained 20lb in a week after going back on Dex!He had bad back and hip pain and the Dex knocked it down greatly! We're at Wilford Hall Medical Center (Lackland AFB) in Texas...the AF has been great to us as far as the medical care and covering all costs including air fare to Texas from AK! The AF medically retired him effective 4 Dec 07...almost 28 yrs active duty AF!Angie
