lentigos/skin cancer possibility?

I am a fair skinned 69 year old female. Have recently developed dry skin particularly on my arms, probably from bath soap. At any rate, I have slightly raised lentigos on both arms and have picked at them, which I realize is a no no. About a month back my GP looked at one that I have picked off and said that it did not look like skin cancer to him, but referred me to a dermatologist. Unfortunately the dermaologist will not take Medicare so I have not gone. I am not feeling sick or anything, and wonder if I need to pursue medical help or should simply let it go. There is no skin cancer in my family, or any other kind, but I live in Eastern WA. where we have terrifically hot summers and very bright sun. I realize that I need to stop picking the scab off the spots, because when I do they bleed slightly. Also I do not give them a chance to heal. Someone's advice would be appreciated. I do take a diuretic and on the bottle you are advised to stay out of the sun as much as possible. The "age spots" on my face are not raised. Thanks for your help.
