HIFU treatment

I am considering a HIFU treatment for my prostate. Sonablade 500 is the machine. As old wisdome states, more important is who is performing the treatment. Anybody have expirience with Dr Suarez ? Any serious complications? Thanks in advance.Timur

RE: HIFU treatment

My husband had HIFU with Dr. Suraez on Nov. In Cancun. He is a very nice man and we believe seems genuinely concerned with helping people. Of course we have not had the psa tested yet, have to wait three months. From what we can tell so far though everything else is operating fairly well.In would not hesitate to trust Dr. Suraez to treat your prostate problem. I believe God sent us to him and he is there to help people like us where there is no other choice that makes logical sense.Hope this helps!Debbie

Hi Debbie, thank you very much for sharing your (your husband) expirience. Could you help a bit more. Couple of questions: What was PSA and Gleeson factor before the HIFU treatment? Who direct you to Dr Suarez ? Why you choose Cancun versus Camada, for example ? What kind of anestesia you choose ?Did they remove the whole prostae or just some part of it? how long was post treatment recovery ? How many days you stay in Cancun before moving back to home? How long he stayed at home before was capable to return to normal life?who remove cateter? I have problem to find a doctor in USA ( HIFU is not yet recognised by FDA). Not every Dr. would like to take resposibility.Does you husband have now any difficulty with urination, or any other problems? Thanks again,Timur

RE: HIFU treatment

Timur:I had HIFU in Puerto Vallarta, MX by Dr. Scionti. Dr. Scionti is with USHIFU and is associated with Dr. Suarez. I chose Dr. Scionti because of is ultrasound experience and extensive experience with prostate cancer. He is a US Board Certified Urologist and is actively training urologists to perform HIFU. The procedure is very easy. You can arrive the day before the procedure and travel home the next day if you want. Just 4 hours after the procedure we walked to the marina for dinner. The day after the procedure my wife and I did a walking tour of old Puerto Vallarta and we probably walked 3 miles. Other than a catheter you don't feel any differnt after the procedure than before, other than relieved. The entire prostate is ablated during the procedure, so depending on the size of your prostate is takes 2 - 3 hours. You are given a spinal which is painless and you sleep through the procedure. The hospital staff in Pueurto Vallarta is excellent. Dr, Scionti brings 2 medical assistants with him, who are on call after your procedure if you have any questions or concerns. Dr. Scionti was in the same hotel we stayed in and he is also on call and he provides you with his cell phone number. It will be 2 weeks tomorrow since I had HIFU. All my functions are normal. My wife removed my catheter this morning, She's an RN. My family practice doctor was willing to remove it but he knew that my wife was just as capable. I have no urinary function issues at all. I have no impotency issues either. Good Luck,GregPS Puerto Vallarta is the nicest Mexican City we visited and we felt very secure there.
