Back pain after whipple operation.

I am 32 and had a whipple in October 2006 for bile duct cancer followed by 6 months of Chemo (5fu) Cancer wise everything is going to plan and 1 year on there is no sign of the cancer, however since August 07 I have suffered from pain in the left hand side if my back, it is there all the time and I would put it in a scale of 5 out of 10. As yet I cannot get a pain killer to completely kill the pain. I have had x rays and 3 CT scans along with a bone scan but everything is fine there is no reason for this pain. I want to ask has anyone else had this very strange and 'phantom' pain after a whipple? Thanks and God blessAndrew

RE: Back pain after whipple operation.

Hello Andrew, my name is Sylvie and my father (68 years old) had the whipple operation in june 2006 and starting a week ago, he has had trouble digesting again (he eats to much and bad) and he is also complaining about a back pain like you are stating. He is also a smoker for the last 50 years and I told him that the problem could be from smoking as I did quit smoking 2 years ago as I had back pains like you are stating...(I smoked for 27 years). I still have the back pains once in a while but nothing like before and I feel much better overall. So, are you a smoker? if not, then I want to communicate with you about the whipple operation. Tell me more about the back pains and what kind of food do you eat? Thanks Sylvie
