After Sutent

Our son has RCC and has had one kidney removed and two lung operations. He has tumors in his lungs again. After seven cycles of Sutent, it does not seem to be working. Has anyone who has taken Sutent first , had any success with Nexavar, Torisel, Avastin or any other treatment afterwards. Any information will cerainly be appreciated.Keith

RE: After Sutent

My mother is on her 3rd week with nexavar after sutent. Sutent didn't work for her, I hope Nexavar will be better. She has rash on her skin but she tolerates side effects by the moment. She was dx RCC on June 2007 and she only has mets on her bones. With sutent the size mets increased but not spread to other organs.Good luck for your sonMyriam

RE: After Sutent

I've had RCC Stg 3B since Nov. 2005. No tumors in any vital organs, just on my adrenal glands and in several lymph nodes. In March 2006 I started on Sutent after trying Nexavar to no avail. Sutent held the cancer in check for 15 months. In June 2007 I developed "Pleural Effusions" (fluid buildup in lining of my left lung). Labs indicated there was no cancer in the lining or the fluid, luckily. My oncologist is certain it is an indication of RCC progression, so we have stopped the sutent. We have just started a Chemo protocol of Gemzar, Xeloda, and Avastin, which is similar to a clinical trial in place at the Univ. of Chicago. So far after 4 months of treatment, everything is in check, and we have finally stabilized the amount of the drug to match my tolerance. Last CT Scan showed no change in two months, and I am confident we will see positive results soon. If it stops working, we will probably go to Torisel next. Hang in there ! D. J.
