Newly Diagnosed

In rapid progression of symptoms to tests to diagnosis and treatment 2 months and one week have past... I have diffuse large B cell lymphoma; localized to the LEFT ORBIT (eye) in soft tissue and bone. The first chemo treatment has gone well; but I wonder if other patients can share if this is a good indication of subsequent chemo treatments? I'm VERY optomistic that I will A) do welll in treatments and B) have a good cure, but I realize there will be down sides with possible side effects.Anyone share there story? thanks

I ended up doing 6 treatments of r-chop evey 21 days and 3 treatment of high dose methatrexate. I was able to work during my 1st 3 treatments and ended up having to go on disability for the last 3 treatments. I knew the chemo was working because i could see the lump disappering. I wasn't never nauseated but extremely tired and no energy at all. I did lose all of my body hair, food tasted like metal for a week after treatment and did have a little short term memory loss which was weird. I ended in July and feel great these days and am back to doing everything I did prior to cancer. I've gone through 2 scans and so far so good. A good thing to do is to make sure you get copies of all tests, scans and reports. I have all of my pet/ct scans and have loaded them onto my pc. Its good because I can actually see the cancer from before chemo and can compare it to any scan I now do.Hang in there and it'll be over before you know it. Best of luck to you.

thank you so much for your reply.. It is encouraging. Fortunately, I am retired and work was not an issue..but the rapid heart beat and fatigue after chemo 1&2, is surprising...SOOO after subsequent chemo's I hope my body might get used to the "poison"..Thanks for the suggestion of copies of test results, I willl ask for them for my medical records at home. Good luck with your continued remission/cure.
RE: Newly Diagnosed

My Dad was just diagnosed with diffuse B cell lymphoma. It is somewhere behind his kidney. He actually went to the doctor cause he thought he was having kidney trouble again. About 6 months ago he started hurting and thought he had a kidney stone, but it wouldn't pass and the pain kept getting worse. He couldn't lay down or sit anywhere for more than an hour. He was getting very weak, but he wasn't getting any sleep. When we found out it was cancer (on 4/18/08) my heart broke. There is not much I am afraid of, but cancer I most definitely am. Part of that fear comes from never having known anyone who survived it. Reading your post gave me hope. I love my Dad very very much. He is my idol. I want to get him fixed. He has had one CHOP-R21 treatment. His doctors aren't telling him much. Let alone giving him copies of his tests. Do you just ask them for it, and they don't get mad?Where did you recieve your treatment? Thanks again for giving me hope.
