metastatic colon cancer

Hi, my name is Randi. My husband was diagnosed with metastatic colon cancer in 4/07. He has a colon resection and a liver resection to remove the very large tumor in his liver. We thought we were lucky that he had only one tumor that was resectable. Four months after chemo ended, he had a recurrence, another liver tumor. That was resected. He just completed his second course of chemotherapy. We are scheduled to have a PET scan in two weeks. Our difficulty is that my husband is convinced that he has another tumor, and that he will die because he has exceeded the "life expectancy" of Stage IV colon cancer. We are not sleeping, we cry alot and we are very scared. My question is this. Has anyone "out there" lived with a similiar disease as my husband for longer than 18 months? Can I please hear from longer survivors? Can any spouses give me some words?Thank you so much and my best wishes to all of you.

RE: metastatic colon cancer

It is normal to be afraid, cancer is scarey. My husband is stage 3 and we opted no chemo. We prayed for wisdom and are doing natural things. I would suggest you search the web for stage IV colon cancer survivors and read the positive cases - there are a lot of them living a long time. Remember stats are averages, he can live a long life. Do not give up, be positive and do not let fear rob you of today. Today is a gift, enjoy it. Take one day at a time and enjoy it to the fullest. And talk to long term survivors that can give you hope. It is there. I will be praying for you. Janet
