Marinol

My father approx 1.5 years ago dx with stage 4 colon cancer with mets to liver and bladder. He had colon resection and bladder tumor resected. He tried chemo therapy on the liver mets without success. He weighed 133 lbs when resection done and through lots of ensure and pushing from my mother his wt increased to 154 lbs over the 1.5 years. I know that his cancer has most likely metastized all over the place. He actually got along great up until a month ago. He now has tried megace without it helping. He has decreased to 143 lbs now and although he is content with letting the cancer end his life I do not wanting him to waste away. Has anyone had a family member or used themselves Marinol to increase appetite and has it worked?ThanksDon

RE: Marinol

Don, to be quite honest with you, it does help....for a while. My sister (51) died with lung cancer and about midway through her batttle she was prescribed Marinol. It did help for a while. Strangely, it increased her appetite for fish, shrimp, crab legs, any kind of seafood. I thought this very odd because she had a normal consumption of fish, etc., until them and it seemed to put her craving into overdrive. Who knows, it may work in this instance. And after a diagnosis of cancer, it can't hurt to try. I believe the secret is in the kinds of food you eat so you might want to take that into consideration. Search out healthy foods with a lot of good vitamins. God bless you and your family and God does answer our prayers, we just have to begin to talk to Him and He will listen. He is the best listener I know. He is going to be up all night anyway!
