Liver Cancer and Diarrhea (Nexavar??)

Has anyone experienced chronic diarrhea from taking Nexavar for liver cancer? My father has had two rounds of radioembolization and began Nexavar approximately four months ago. He has had chronic diahrrea for several weeks and nothing seems to work. We are not sure if it is from the Nexavar or from the Cancer. Anyone have a similar experience?

My late brother, who died of HCC in late September 2007, had one chemoembolization, followed by systemic chemo with Adriamycin for 3 months. When the Adriamycin failed to stop tumor progression, he was switched to Nexavar for about 3 months.. While on Nexavar, he consistently experienced serious diarrahea. On the advice of his oncologist, he attempted to control it with various meds/strategies but nothing worked for longer than a couple of days. We never really knew how much of the diarrahea was a side effect of Nexavar and what was caused by disease progression. Your loved one's oncologist would be the best person to ask for further information.

Hi My Dad is also on Nexavar for liver cancer and did experience diarehha and very dry skin on his face. This is a side effect of the medication. If it continues they will consider changing his dosage. My dad only experienced these side effects the first month on Nexavar. He feels much better now. Although he does feel tired. I hope this helps.

Good morning. I am just wondering if you heard from anyone regarding this. My mom is on Nexavar and the chronic diarrhea is terrible. Sometimes she cant even make it to the bathroom. I am very worried. Please let me know if you heard from anyone. Thanks. On 12/30/2007 lchope wrote:Has anyone experienced chronic diarrhea from taking Nexavar for liver cancer? My father has had two rounds of radioembolization and began Nexavar approximately four months ago. He has had chronic diahrrea for several weeks and nothing seems to work.
Yes, my wife has been on Nexavar for kidney cancer for 3 years now. She has had diarrhea as one of the side affects for most of the time. Once the cancer had gone away the doctor lowered her dosage in half which helped them be less severe. Now she only has to go urgently about once every 2-3 days. Things like Imodium and Kaopectate also did help a little, but we have found nothing that really gets rid of the symptoms. It has hampered our life some (always trying to be near a bathroom), but being in otherwise good health and cancer free is still a good trade off.
