xeloda side effects and how your body reacts

Hey, if anyone has a situation that seems to be relevent, please let me know. My father was diagnosed with rectal cancer and had to do chemo and radiation before surgery. He came through all of it with flying colors. Problem, he had to take Xeloda again after surgery. He started to develop hand and foot syndrome. Started out mi;d. but turned in to the worst nightmare ever. Nothing would ease the itching and the pain that went along with this. He was even put in the hospital with it because the Dr. had no idea what was going on. He had been off of the pills for almost a month and it just kept getting worse. He ended up with this all over his back, arms and even his face, which is not supposto happen. Like I said even all of his Dr.'s had no clue what was going on. After a week in the hospital, and after they did a biopsy of his skin, they found out this whole time that he is actually allergic to Xeloda, after he had been taking it for months. Imagine that. He is off of the steroids for the allergic reaction, but now his hands are starting to itch and get bad again. We were told that even up to a month later, it can still be excreeted from your skin, but it has now been almosy 2 1/2 months. My mother heard that it can actually be released from your skin for up tp 10 months after taking your last dose. Does anyone know anything about this or how long after your last dose you can still get side effects? We are so desperate for any answers or information. Please let me know if there is anything we can do. Thank you so much.
