During the procedure doctor completly ablated a prostate and prostate uretra. So uretra has to be restored some how for 2-3 weeks?Potential problems here for old person? Anybody have expirience with HIFU post complications? What kind of ?  How you approach this being in an other country, away from doctor who performs the treatment? When one left Canada or Mexica after treatment and come home to US, How American urologist, without proper training with HIFU, would be able to treat those complications?  Take responsibility ? The HIFU consultants should recommend a local doctor for you before hand.The 20% figure you mentioned is probably a figure for possible  short term side effects. Have been able to have sex again after 3 1/2 mos. with assistance of course. All in all I feel good, the recovery curve is faster than other treatments. My local uro. has been cooperative and supportive, after all it is your decision and my feeling is that all the treatments are experimental and the charts and figures can be manipulated anyway. I took the catheter out after 7 days, and though for about 30 days I found myself urinating more and having feeling like I was never "empty", have had ZERO complications. In fact, I chose HIFU because of the myriad of complications I realized were way more prevalent with the other procedures. Have 2 friend who had surgery- both have incontinence and impotency problems- Had sex 2 weeks after the procedure! Took no pain killers and don't use viagra. Am 56 yrs old, in gym every day, and quite frankly don't even think about my past "problem". If quality of life is big deal, then I can think of no other procedure than HIFU. Things have gone fairly well so far, he does have some problem with ED. He had the procedure done on 11/04 ,so he has not gone the three mths to get his psa retested. We did have some problem with his uroligist not wanting to treat him after he said he would. We think he was not happy because we had robotic surgery scheduled and chose to go with HIFU and cancelled. Ended up having to go to the emergency room to get his catheter out cause this Dr. kept putting him off. Anyway so far urinary function is much better than before the treatment and we are hoping for the best. purpleeternal Tue, 22 Jan 2008 00:00:00 GMT Hi,My friend had just went through the HIFU procedure in December 2007.  He had it done with Dr. Uchida in Japan.  It was a great experience.  He is 57 yrs old and had a PSA of 4.3 with a gleason score of 3+3(6). He had the HIFU plus Turp procedure.  The staff at the hospital were wonderful and was always helpful and accomodating.  We didn't have the procedure done at the main hospital because it was booked but had it at a private hospital-FUJI KOSEI.  He was in the hospital for about 4 days and then released.  After the first day or so, he was able to move around but with some pain and a catheter. He left Japan and headed back to the US with a catheter in for 2 weeks.  When it was removed, he had no problems urinating.  It's been 5 weeks since the procedure and has been doing well.  The only thing he feels is a little pain still.  He got his PSA results this week(after 5 weeks) and it went from a 4.3 PSA to 0.45.  What a great result!  We will keep monitoring the PSA every 2 months.I hope this helped.  Please email me with any other concerns and questions that I may help you with.  We are very happy with the results from the HIFU procedure.   Chicago Sun, 27 Jan 2008 00:00:00 GMT My father had a similar treatment which is a combination of Turp and HIFU. a week ago in Istanbul, Turkey by Prof. Kural. He was at T1 with a confined case and he is 76. Post recovery is significantly impressive from the perspective of patient's regaining strength to go about his usual daily activities.His hospital stay was 3 days and the catheter was removed prior to his release from the hospital. THe medical team and hospital staff were efficient and supportive.   We will have to wait for 4 weeks before getting a new PSA count.So far, our experience is limited to regaining strength to go about as independently as possible which is good.
