thrush

I'm 8 weeks out of radiation treatment for SCC on the base of my tongue. Generally, I'm recovering well. But I have deposits of thrush around my molars that don't seem to want to disolve. The docs have been great and have suggested trying Nystatin straight in stead of just in the mucosistis mouthwash. The remaining thrush makes chewing very difficult. I'm not complaining, I know it takes time. But the soreness in my throat has dissipated and all that is keeping me from going to more and more solid food is this remaining thrush which keeps my tongue sore. Anyone have any experience or ideas....ThanksL

RE: thrush

Ask your doctor to prescribe diflucan. It may take several rounds to completely defeat thrush. I had it throughout treatment and it was awful. I was misdiagnosed by the radiation oncologist for two weeks, which is a whole other story. My oncologist finally properly diagnosed me and prescribed the diflucan. I ended up taking it for two weeks, then another round later. Best of luck to you.

Hope you've resolved this by now. If not, I would like to add that I had a stubborn case of thrush that returned every time I went off Diflucan I finally conquered it by using grapefruit seed extract (15 drops in a cup of water) as a mouth rinse throughout the day. I ran it by my oncologist and he okayed it, even though he had never heard of it
