Update on Mama

Hi All, God Bless all of you for your support and prayers. Even though I have support from family and friends that are here and I know they love my Mama, I just feel all of you understand better. We are in the same boat. Mama is better ! She is home. I have been scrambling around like a chicken with its head cut off trying to get things together for her. My sister and I decided to get new carpet for her room. The carpet in her room was old and we thought it would help those lungs. Well Mama wasn't supposed to come home until today so after making arrangements to have carpet installed yesterday morning the hospital decides to discharge her late Monday afternoon. My husband and I had to clear out her room and we decided to paint while we were at it. Mama is living in the dining room until the paint fumes are gone. I am sorry it took me until now to update. I just haven't been able to stop and I couldn't get to my computer because of furniture from Mama's room ! Here is the news. You all know what I was told by the Dr at the hospital. Then Sat one of the pulmonary Dr's (not her regular Dr) on call pretty much said the same thing. Yesterday her REAL lung Dr returned a call to me. I had alot of questions and wanted to have a consultation with him. The first thing he said was he did NOT think Mama had 2 months or so to live !! He said the ones that told me that were not her Dr. He does not think her lungs have gotten that much worse. He did say however that she does have end stage COPD. He also said if he knew how long someone would live he be making money in Vegas. He said it was his opinion we have more to fear from EC but he understood it was under control. I am upset with the Dr that told me Mama didn't have long. She took a few years off my life. Mama physically has done a complete turn around. She is weak and cannot do anything but lay around. Thursday night she was struggling to breath, was confused and was just heartbreaking to see. I was afraid to be alone with her. She really got better Sunday and Monday. She doesn't remember much those bad days. I hope she can remember enough to keep her from wanting to smoke. I think this is what happened. New Years Eve Mama had back surgery. She was in the hosptal for the COPD then but her Dr's said it was fine to go ahead with the surgery. I think the surgery should have been put off until she had time to fully recover, but we trusted the Dr. So 2 days after the back surgery is when everything happened. I am thanking God now as well as all of you. I have my Mama back. At least for now. Sorry to be so long, but I wanted to give all the details I could. Love to all, Pat

Pat - I knew it!! That Mama of yours is tough as nails girl!! I just knew she would be okay (although I did do some crossing of fingers, legs and arms :-) You know, I wonder if the anethesia used for the surgery created a problem because of the COPD and it was harder to clear out of the lungs and now it has cleared. At any rate, I am SO HAPPY for you!!!!!! that is such great news Pat - keep us posted!!! Love - karen

Hi Pat-I know I've mentioned tongren in a few other posts. We have people in class with COPD. They visibly pink up in a minute or two and breathe easier when we treat them. Don't know if she would be open to alternative energy healing, but it can help with the COPD as well as be used for cancer. Glad your real Dr had less alarming news for you. Some of these Drs seem like they're out to terrify you as much as possible. Good luck with your Mom.

RE: Update on Mama

My Thanks to all of youKaren, I think you are right on the money about the surgery. I had told my sister Mama looked worse the day after surgery than before. I believe it was too much for lungs that were already compromised. The Dr should have waited a few weeks for the lungs to get back to her normal (which is bad anyway). If I can only keep her from smoking ! I read it is never too late to quit. After a few weeks anybodys lungs can improve. Azzie / Pat, Indeed the wait was awful. We are all to familiar with the agony of waiting. I am still praying for you and Harley. Tongrenhealer, I am open to anything that can help Mama. If it helps cancer and COPD the more the merrier. Thanks for the info
