Doxil

My moms doctor wants her to start on Doxil Jan. 15th 08 this will be the 3rd different kind of chemo that she's had . She has stage 4 ovarian cancer that has spread to her liver before they caught it . They don't want to debulk until they can shrink it down but so far nothing is working. I can't remember the name of the 1st kind of chemo she was on, but the 2nd one was Topotecan & none of these have helped her . I was just wondering if anyone could give any advice . I'm just lost.

Well my mom is doing better,I think !!!!! The doctor says that she has what they call a pie ! Where the tumor is pushing on the colon & everything can't get out . For the most part after they cleaned her out then she couldn't stop going so they gave her something else to slow her down a bit !! They now say that her magnesium , potassium & blood levels are to low & they are doing some checking on her stools . I really don't think they have a clue as to what's going on, but he has no plans to let her go home just yet either !! Keep me posted .

RE: Doxil

I had my first Doxil Treatment on January 7th. The first week I feltthe effects post steroid, took good care of my mouth, hands, feet andskin (cold gel packs, cool short showers, lots of moisturizer, coolbeverages and loose clothing) and I just rested for 3-5 days postchemo. I did have awful constipation for the first 4 days after theDoxil so that must be handled better next time, will try softenersbefore the treatments and. I also had a mild headache for a few days. Ifelt slightly sluggish during the second week and now starting week 3 Ifeel fairly good. Saw the doc today, no bad lab works. So I'll begetting my second treatment on feb 4. I hope you have similarexperience as me, but you must be careful to avoid hand and footsyndrome, so treat yourself gently the day before the treatment(identified above in parenthesis) and for 3-5 days posttreatment. If you develop hand and foot, you may need to discontinuethe treatment or reduce the dose. If it's working, you don't want tohave to stop it.Take care, Jeanne

The only side effect I am having is a horrible rash that itches terribly. I am responding really well to this drug and have heard that it is a miracle drug. Don't lose hope yet until she gets the other problem resolved. Take care and know that you are not alone in this horrible situation.
