acid and bile reflux

My husband is also a survivor of esophageal cancer...had esophagectomy with stomach pulled up through his chest..then a fistula with feeding tube for 4 months. We are at a loss as it sounds are each of you. Kenny gets choked off and on day and night...hasn't slept laying down in over a year. we just had a new scope, gastro doctor says he has never seen acid so bad...put him on the domperidome...been on that for 2 and a half weeks..not seeing much improvement..for those taking this drug, does it take longer to do some good or if it hasn't worked , not going to. The surgeon has nothing to offer, gastro has nothing to offer, gp says you are going to aspirate and I don't know what to tell you...Kenny has just about given up on food, has lost 22 pounds the last month. All he is eating at this point is mashed potatoes and applesauce. Severe depression has set in, not that it hadn't before but much worse now...I am scared to death I will come home from work and he will have decided enough is enough...Can anybody offer any glimmer of hope that things might get better?

RE: acid and bile reflux

Hi-So sorry things aren't going well. We have used domperidone for awhile and the effects were noticeable quickly, but I don't think the reflux was anywhere near as bad or frequent as your husband. We have also found some relief with a homeopathic remedy called Acidil to treat acid although not so much for reflux, but maybe if you could get the acid down the reflux would be less. Seems to me that once the cycle starts, it's hard to knock back down to manageable, so maybe it will just take a bit of time for things to settle down. My husband is having a bit more reflux at the moment, but it's slight and he's not aspirating it, thank God! He had an emergency small bowel resection two weeks back, so I'm wondering if the increase is related to the surgery, and will be better soon. I always recommend tongren for people open to energy healing. It could help with the reflux, depression, or keeping future cancer at bay. It is also a great immune system builder. We all have up to 3 wishes per session, and they do conference phone calls regularly for people who are not near any of the groups who meet. You can find info on it at tongrenworld.com. Good luck with your husband. Will keep you both in my prayers.

Thanks for answering, just knowing we are not the only ones going through these things helps more than anyone could know. Kenny has been through so much...has 5 stints in his heart, 4 back surgeries none of which has been much relief...Sometimes I feel guilty for even asking him to keep going but we have a 12 year old who still needs his father very much. I will never stop searching for something that could help...thanks again.

Geez,I feel so bad for Kenny and your family..I am about to go through what I call the triple hell..chemo/radiation/surgery I also have esophageal cancer..but I wont go into detail right now..What I wanted to say..or suggest is: Get a Juicer if you havnt gotten one already..and try a mixture of carrot apple..probably mostly apples for Kenny..I think it is good for removing or knocking down the acid..Makes for a Nice BUURP! I am still waiting for my juice book through the mail..but look into natural remedies for this! there are also erbs and other things too...a Juicer is good for every-1 in your family and also stop eating all the junk like: Red Meats..Sugar & especially processed foods! <---the worst!.. I truly believe after reading for a month about how the body & cells work that this very well could have prevented or atleast stunted my cancer & many other ailments in my body! If its true that your body is a temple then you should treat it & feed it like one too...Gl and keep in touch.. Sincerely Joe D

Sincerely Joe DThanks Joe. Kenny is already living on applesauce, no sugar so I'm sure he would like the juice too. We appreciate any and all advice. I hope you have someone to be there for you when you have the surgery and treatments. Kenny didn't have treatments, his doctors insist it wasn't necessary as they took esophagis above and below. He was lucky as he was stage 0 when they found his....He was being stretched every couple of weeks, complications from bypass surgery.....He hasn't eaten meat since before the cancer surgery, never could tolerate it after the gastric bypass. I will be praying for you as well! Penny

I've had the surgery (Ivor-Lewis) in July 2005. I don't have the reflux problem, except a little. This will sound off the wall, but here goes: I eat a small bowl of air-popped popcorn before I go to bed. It helps me. You might give it a try.Steve
