Social Security disability benefits for terminal cancer

My late husband was diagnosed with stage 4 stomach cancer. We applied immediately for his social security disability, he was deemed qualified BUT had to wait five months before receiving, even though he had been given six months to live. Does anyone know of any person who did receive their disability benefits before this five month waiting period was met? I am appealing Social Security decision that I (for the benefit of my late husband) should receive one month's disability for my late husband. My late husband should have received all that was due him. Legislation has been introduced to do away with this five month waiting period (HR2713) but it STILL sits. I am planning on taking this all the way up to the highest level to have this changed. Any info could be helpful.

RE: Social Security disability benefits for terminal cancer

If bill was introduced how can they say you are not entitled to his benefits. Fight them all the way. I know going thru the application process with my husband was God awful. My husband was on the short term disability first then he went back to work and then we filed. The idiot that interviewed him was snappy with him because he could not speak up loud, he was out of breath and had a tumor on top of his left lung. I held my tongue because I didn't want him to become more upset. Now what I cannot figure out is that is that we always worked, had to wait months to start to receive benefits and I am not entitled to his Social Security benefit as a widow because I am not 60 years old. So why on the yearly print out does it give you all the amounts you are entitled to and then be told I am not entitled or our daughter because she was 19 years old at the time he became disabled. I hope you will be able to recieve your husbands benefits, all of it. Why can't widows receive their husbands benefit. I just DON'T UNDERSTAND. Best of Luck to You.Bernadette
