I was told that they don't typically check you until you are 50, but by chance, they checked my father at the age of 47.  The doctors decided he had the cancer for some time before it was found.  Should I start checking every year, since I have such a higher probability of getting it?  I'm thinking it is better safe than sorry, but just wanted some outside thoughts. In my eyes a couple moments of uncomfortable every year would easily beat any treatment for Cancer (prostate or any other type).Thanks!!!!  Jwm0429 Mon, 21 Jan 2008 00:00:00 GMT Hello at age 49 i was found to have prostate cancer. My doctor also said 50 should be ok.. My present doctor now tells me that if cancer runs in the family like it does mine my son should start being checked at age 30. I believe you might be better off finding a reputable urologist who is in daily contact with these issues.
