Testing After Chemo ?

I was wondering when my father should get tested to see how well the chemo is working. He just finished his first round, and had blood tests done, but not for cancer markers, and no ct scans. I think the doctor said he will test for cancer markers either after the second or third round. is this right, or should they test after every round?
