what to expect if your entire stomach is removed

Hi My husband, Dave, is going to have his entire stomach removed on 1/30 and I would so appreciate any caregiver or patience that has had this done. I have had several years of experience with partial stomach removal as Dave had 2/3 of his stomach removed 5 years ago. Now I want to exchange ideas with anyone that has had the entire stomach removed so I can better help Dave. I will be so grateful if anyone can help me. Thanks Fran

Hi,My mom just had her stomach removed 5 months ago. I am hoping to get some info myself. Your husband is young and strong....my mom is alittle older and fragile so I am very overwhelmed with trying to help her get better. It is very hard for her to eat. A foamlike substance constantly comes up on her when she has liquids. You have to eat very small portions but in my moms case it is not enough for her to put on the weight. I read somewhere about the Atkins diet. So maybe your husband can look into something like that is he has trouble eating. I hope all goes well for him. Let me know how it turns out.J

Hi it was so nice of you to write and I will try and keep this updated. His surgery is next Wed. and I am scared to death. While they were doing the tests for surgery they found out that he had had a heart attack at some time and we didn[t even know it. They will be able to do the surgery but have to watch him closely. I sure hope your mom gets better soon and I will keep her in my thoughts and prayers.. Thanks Again, Francena
