CancerCompass message board discussion started by 5fuvictim on 1/30/2008 http://www.cancercompass.com/message-board/message/all,20481,0.htm Tue, 07 Oct 2008 00:00:00 GMT Tue, 07 Oct 2008 00:00:00 GMT http://backend.userland.com/rss RSS.NET: http://www.rssdotnet.com/ My family needs answers. If any of you have lost a loved one to the chemo trmt 5fu or have experienced any of this horrible drugs side effects please it needs to be reported to the FDA Federal Drug Admin Medwatch program.We lost our mother a year ago to the horrible side effects of 5fu.  She had stage II vular cancer.  She was a very active,healthy women who went to the gym, danced and still worked.  Her cancer was not even close to as bad as some of our friends and relatives that have survived.  She was given 5fu and in a matter of a couple days we were rushing her to the hospital because of severe nausea, diarrhea.  She was weak could not eat trouble breathing oxygen level kept dropping.  She ended up in CCU and eventually on life support.  Basically her whole body shut down.  The doctors in the hospital could not do much more for her.  Then after the fact, my family discovered there is a test that can be done before giving this lethal drug, to see if the patient has the proper enzymes.  Obviously our mother did not have this enzyme test nor was it even mentioned by her Dr. therefore she lost her life.  She had just become engaged and was so happy and had everything going for her.  She was a strong women and  we never thought all this would happen.  (We should have been told about this enzyme test and advised on the harsh results from this type of chemo) the Gyn.Oncologist that had diagnosed her cancer had told us she would receive chemo at the end of her radiation trmt and only if there was still cancer cells present.  She was only to ger and enchancement of chemo. She was doing whatever the Dr's told her just so she could get better.  The only reason she switched Dr's was to be able to work and still get radiation trmt.  So if you are recently diagnosed PLEASE ask questions just don't do what the Dr's say without looking into it.  If you are a victim or a family member of a loved one that has had to go through this I am so very sorry and my heart goes out to you.  Please contact the FDA and make a stand to have this stopped so innocent people do not lose their lives from oncology dr's not following through and administering this lethal drug.                                                                      5fuvictim Wed, 30 Jan 2008 00:00:00 GMT
