Linitis Plastica

My aunt was diagnosed with Linitis Plastica just this week, they had to do an emergency surgery removing her entire stomach. The cancer is now still in the lymph notes. Almost everything i have read about this cancer has been negative, especially with the fact that her stomach was removed prematurely. Does anyone know anything about this type of cancer?

RE: Linitis Plastica

Hello,

I don't know too much about Linitis Plastica, or sometimes it's referred to as Leather Bottle Stomach, but I do know of a man that's about 15 years out from this surgery. I think that he was stage 3 or 4. His wife wrote encouraging words to me when my husband was diagnosed with stomach cancer in 2005.

It's hard when you read the information and statistics online...they are all so very negative and scary. After I flipped myself out completely reading those things, I started only looking online for other people's stories. You'll feel a lot more positive if you switch your focus from the stats to real people...or, at least I did!

I wish that I was more help! Take care,
Amy

my dad was diagonosed with this cancer in June 07 and had his stomach immediately removed, after about 6 weeks he started chemo. He did 8 rounds of chemo which took him to Dec 07....the chemo was rough..he lost weight, lost his hair, lost his appepite and bacically lost his will to live. But by the grace of God he came through it alive...So now he is just starting to recover and his PET scan is not picking up any remaining signs of cancer.....so we are keeping our fingers crossed that he will be with us for some time again!!!! Just keep praying!!!

My mom was just diagnosed with stomach cancer with linitis plastica. Unlike all the other posting my mom did not have her stomach removed nor was Chemotherapy an option. She is a very young 70yo. They inserted a J-tube and things are very rough right now. I too read all the terrible things on the internet but almost every word was confirmed by her doctors. I am sure that her age might have more to do with it also. Right now she is having a tough time with vomiting bile as she takes nothing by mouth. The doctors can not seem to get that in contol. She is being discharged to the Hospice House at 3pm to stay "until she is stable to go home". I am not feeling real good about the odds of this.I haven't read another message where they didn't do surgery at all, or want to start them on Chemotherapy, everyone has a different story. I will put your aunt in my prayers.RhondaH
