RCC bone tumor and Sutent

My Father (aged 65) just found out that he has a 2.1 cm tumor in his right kidney and a bone tumor on his sternum that's putting pressure on his heart. so the issues is to cut out his sternum possibly limiting the use of shoulders since he would probably lose his clavicles and to have a nephrectomy. His urologist mentioned that he has to work on shrinking the bone tumor because the the kidney tumor is small and not as big an issue at this stage. They are going to start on sutent ASAP.. does anyone have any info on how effective Sutent is againt bone tumors?? BTW his RCC is fuhrman stage is 3 if that is pertinent. I know there are people are are way worse off than he is but it really sucks to see the fear in his face. and it's hard to be strong for-- i know he has a difficult to travel and hope it's doesn't kill for a long time. I pray for all of you. and pray to erradicate this plague.

RE: RCC bone tumor and Sutent

My husband has RCC with metatsis to the sternum (bone) and to the lungs. He initially had 4 tumors on the lung, 3-4 tumors in the kidney bed where his kidney had been removed, and a large tumor in the sternum. He has been taking Sutent for almost 6 months now. 2 of the tumors in the lungs are completely gone, the others has shrunk very small, and two in his kidney bed have shrunk alot. The Dr says that the one in his sternum is stable and not growing anymore (he had radiation on that area first). We have been very pleased with the results that we have received on sutent. Let me know how it goes. Best of LUck to you and your family.
