sutent

I just started on sutent feb. 9. Is there a time frame on any of the side effects? So far I feel o.k. Any info would be appreciated. My doc's office did not have much info. Thank You

Ask your oncologist if you should be followed by a cardiologist also. Some oncologist do advise to also be checked by a cardio doctor while on Sutant. Best of Luck

My husband has just finished his 4th round of Sutent and the only side effect is a slight elevation in blood pressure. I know he is fortunate but just wanted you to know that you may not have any side effects. We were advised from the start to use Head and Shoulders shampoo to bathe with to avoid a rash and we have used the shampoo and he has not had a rash. Not sure if the shampoo is responsible or not but we are still using it. Good luck.Ginny

I did get an echocardiogram before I started on sutent and they said they would recheck. Thanks again

Is it regular head and shoulders or does it matter? I also read that it is good to rinse your mouth 3 times a day with a mixture of 8 oz. of water and 1 tsp of baking soda to avoid mouth sores.Paula

I just buy the regular Head and Shoulders. I can't guarantee it works but my husband does not have a rash, of course he might not any way but we will continue with the shampoo. Ginny

Dear Sean12,I am on my 12th cycle of sutent right now. The side effects I experienced usually started to show about 4-5 days into the cycle and lasted sometimes a few days after I took my last pill.

What dosage are you on?My husband started with 37.5 mg for 6 weeks straight and then the doctor increased it to 50 mg. He took 50 mg for another 2 1/2 weeks and then developed something called hand foot syndrome. His feet got incredibly red on the bottom and hurt and then he developed sores. He could barely walk. He stopped the Sutent and felt better within days. The sores were gone in a week and he was walking normally again. We gave him 2 weeks off and now he is back on 37.5 mg. He does not have a rash but he does seem to be bruising more easily. So far his blood work has been OK though and he does not have nose bleeds or bleeding gums. That is our experience. My husband is 47 years old and was prescribed Sutent for lung cancer with brain mets. He has remained stable on Sutent for 10 weeks.
