Misoprostel or Sucralfate used for Canine TCC?

Hi , my Westie, Spike, is still suffering on a weekly basis from vomiting and bad diahhrea from his peroxicam, generally in the wee hours of the morning.I called a vet pharmacist and he recommended Misoprostel. Has anyone used it for these symptoms? I also read on the web that sucralfate could be an option but the vet. pharmacist did not specifically offer that drug up. Any advice would be welcome. Our Vet has run out of ideas so we are doing our own research....

I'm so sorry that Spike got this terrible disease. I am wondering how much peroxicam he is getting, at what time, and is he getting anything else? Reason being, Kacee my Scottie got 3.5 ml (liquid) - I would feed her then wait about and hour then give her pepcid then about 30 minutes after that she would get her peroxicam. In the beginning she had similar symptoms, so I had to lower the peroxicam dosage and gradually work back up. Every dog is different so it is trial and error to find what will work best with your baby. There are also alot of holistic formulas which have helped many on this board. If you go to page 2 of the pet cancer board there is a posting that says "link to more messages...." On that link you will find over 600 posts that will give you alot of information and support. In the mean time, love Spike every single day you have him. Stay up beat. They don't know they are sick - and we don't want to tell them. Good LuckKaren

Spike gets 2.5 mg of peroxicam with his food in the morning (last week we switched from wet to dry Hills I/D and cut out the glucosomine) . We wanted to take him to a compounded 3 mg dose but have not been able to do so. He takes cimetidine for his tummy. At lunch he gets a few spoons of white rice and at nite the rest of his Hills daily allotment. All week he does great, and then gets a "bout" at 3-4 in the morning and is hungry and fine the next morning. I contacted a couple of vet pharmacists and one is investigating the misoprostil for me as well as possibly going trans-derm for the perox behind his ear, to bypass the tummy. The pharm is emailing out to the American Academy for advice. As soon as I hear something I will post for other people to consider. Thanks for your best wishes.
