Stomach Cancer

My Dad has recently been diagnosed with stomach and esophageal cancer at one hospital. When taken to another hospital they confirmed stomach cancer but said they were not certain about the esophageal cancer. We are confused!! Both hospitals did bloodwork, CAT scans, and biopsies. Also, no doctor a has ever said what stage he is in or what type of stomach cancer he has. Is this information they should be able to tell us BEFORE surgery???? Please help!!!

RE: Stomach Cancer

i would imagine they should be able to tell him by now if it has spread. My dad had stomach cancer feb 07 and had whole stomach removed 3 weeks later. He had a very tough recovery and lost 4-5 stone in weight, i think due to an infection also. The food issue was a big problem at the start but on a positive note he is now eating out drinking wine with his meals and is coping fine. He had chemo and radiation all last summer and is only now putting on a small amout of weight, he has good days and bad. However he had CT last week and all the cancer is gone, he just has to see his surgeon about a hernia. Its going to be a long road for your dad but hopefully he'll recover. How old is your dad? niamh
