Japanese mushroom extract

I am making good progress with chemotherapy (including a monoclonal antibody) for MALT lymphoma. I started treatment because of a buildup of IGM protein in my blood, which potentally could damage my kidneys. After nine months of treatment, I am making excellent progress and have experienced few side-effects.I suggest that chemotherapy patients and prospective patienst look carefully at the scientific studies (not advertising) concerning Japanese mushroom extract as an adjunct to chemotherapy. I understand that almost all chemotherapy patients in Japan (except blood cancer patients) take it to control the side effects of chemotherapy. There is a medical society in Japan with about 300 physician members that studies their use. Mushrooms were originally of interest to the Japanese because they are an old folk remedy, said to help the immune system. There has been little or no interest in mushroom extract by the American pharmaceutical companies.AHCC+ is a standardized extract (of several mushroom species) that is commercially available. I take three 1,000 capsules a day and will drop to one when my blood work is normal. I have had few side effects from chemotherapy (including little of no hair loss). I think the cost is about a dollar a capsule. My suggestion is to read the scientific studies and discuss them with your physician.
